Retired stroke nurse... Foot drop is common after stroke. The 'leg braces' are called AFOs (ankle-foot-orthoses), to hold up the foot. It's a strap fastened around the calf with rods going down into the shoe to keep the ankle stable and prevent it from 'flopping'. Something would be visible.
