As someone who **once** got to surprise their partner with flowers at the gate prior to 9/11 I’m considering getting PreCheck just for this.

Realizing people are unlikely to mistake my writing for LLMs —no matter how many times I reread drafts I usually miss a doubled word and often include phasing which works fine in spoken english but is awkward when read.

I wonder if Pangram would agree

A reminder: Google will never call you. If someone says they are Google on the phone it is a scam.

If you ever get a call from someone claiming to be from your bank, hangup and call the number on the back of your card.

Incoming numbers and CallerID can be easily spoofed.

I used to create open source tools to scratch and itch and hoping someone else would find them useful.

Now I create a new tools almost weekly, post them on GitHub and don’t care. It’s not my job to convince everyone they are missing out on useful shit.

I’m calling it now.

LLMs will cause cursive to return.

How it’ll go: As we demand students show they’re not cheating with AI, hand-written tests and assignments will make a comeback. Because print is slower than cursive, we will start teaching it to kids again.

Everyone is excited about Valve’s box shaped computer, but only one company dared to ship cube with one corner too few.

“On July 1st all US Households will receive a bill for $2222 to cover their portion of the war reparations to Iran.” ($300B/135M households)

The reason "pallettes of cash" became such a sticky anti-JCPOA talking point is because it's vivid - you can hold an image of it in your mind's eye. "$300 billion" sounds like a lot of money but doesn't connect with people the same way. Dems should consider this in crafting talking points

Introducing defaults-differ
a tool for diff-ing macOS defaults preferences

step 1: run default-differ
step 2: change something in System Settings
step 3: get `defaults` commands of the changes (profit?)

It's wild that in 2004 @daringfireball.bsky.social synthesized an ascii-based spec for annotating text and now I (and millions of others) use backticks when writing. Not just code but prose too. Every single day.

At some level, I often think in Markdown.
Yikes.

I've been using LOL in conversation for 30 odd years (ytalk, IRC, ICQ, AIM, etc) but more recently my brain is no longer processing it "Laughs Out Loud".

Instead I see a man drowning.
Won't someone please help him?

It's amazing how everything depends on GitHub and so much breaks when it's even a little bit unavailable.

Today's example, JSON schema loading from jsonschemastore.org via yaml-language-server / vscode-json-language-server. No auto-complete for me!

Good news everyone!
yaml-language-server now supports a more generic inline schema directive! Coming soon to YAML files in all your repos.

Does anyone else experience a splotchy mess when transitioning from dark to light on their Macbook?

This is a two week old 14inch M5 Macbook Pro Nano-Texture with default settings. None of the display options (Preset, True Tone, Refresh Rate, Brightness etc) seem to help.

Have you ever wondered why if you save an empty Rust file your editor might add a newline?

I thought it was a @zed.dev bug, but turns out it's cause Zed by-default enables format_on_save and rust-analyzer. When rust-analyzer invokes rustfmt and that actually adds the newline. But why?

It took me far too long to realize Indeed was merging with GlassDoor and not NextDoor.

For the life of me I couldn’t grasp the private equity AI fever dream where combining profiles of racist NextDoor comments and resumes of unemployed folks led to a profitable synergy.

One of my favorite parts of coding agents is that I can just say "fix my merge conflict".

I will happily pay some number of pennies to outsource the first pass to a machine.

At a bar with "Mango Cart" on tap. It's amazing how fast this has fallen out of the lexicon. Juul mango pods (along with Creme, Fruit, Cucumber) were discontinued (US in 2019, Canada 2020) but before that were **super** popular with kids.

The beer is a about a literal food cart that sells mango.

I don't live in Utah, but I think this would be a fun ride. Eating 10 Costco 1/4 Hotdogs would mean my body would be 1% Costco Dog by weight (2.5lbs/250lbs). That should probably auto-trigger an intervention.

I’ve hit a bug for years (5?) where my iPhone gets in a state where video refuses to play. Once it’s triggered no app can play video (YouTube, Hulu, TV, etc) until I restart the device.
