This specimen wasn't added to the collection until 1998, although it was discovered decades earlier. Oscar Field found the tooth in the early 1950s while working on the construction of the Canso Causeway.

Long interested in the ceramic arts, Alice Egan Hagen did not turn her own hand to the potter’s wheel until she was 60. But she certainly made up for lost time. Using Nova Scotia clays, Hagen combined the construction and decorative processes to create beautiful pieces like this bowl.

The inspiration for Rose and Jack’s final scene in James Cameron’s Titanic, this hand-carved wooden lounge panel fragment comes from the arch over the entrance to the First Class lounge, the exact area where RMS Titanic broke in half, which explains its shattered edges.

Sometimes important fossils are #TeenyTinyThings - like this 200 million year old Tritheledont tooth that was collected during a public fossil dig at Wasson Bluff in 2016. The tooth is from an extinct mouse sized animal (10-20 cm) that was a close relative to early mammals.

Root is a Wood turtle that has spent most of his life in captivity and joined the museum family in 2024. Wood turtles are listed as Threatened under the Nova Scotia Endangered Species Act. You can visit Root at the Museum of Natural History. 🐢💚

The Lady Scotia wood-burning stove was part of a line of enameled stoves made at the Lunenburg Foundry in the 1920s. Finished in vibrant porcelain green with cream panels, this stove came to the Museum of Industry straight from the kitchen where it spent its working life.
