Rut season is getting a little muddy! Bull elk wallow in mud during the rut, coating themselves in scent and showing off for potential mates (and rivals). Basically, it’s elk cologne, but make it earthy. 🦌

A large honey bee colony made a temporary home in our Free-Roaming Area. To help relocate the busy pollinators safely, animal care staff reached out to the local Beekeepers Association for assistance. An experienced volunteer helped safely remove the swarm and relocated the bees to a new home. 🐝

Velvet is a layer that supplies the antlers with nutrients needed to build the bone. When the blood supply is cut off to the antlers (due to hormones), the velvet dries up and sheds.
