US Navy transfers first Virginia Payload Module of USS Arizona submarine for final assembly
General Dynamics Electric Boat transferred the first completed 184-foot Virginia Payload Module section for the future USS Arizona from Quonset Point, Rhode Island, to Groton, Connecticut. The 10,200-ton Block V submarine hull incorporates an 83-foot-long midships extension that houses four large-diameter payload tubes. This structural integration increases the vessel's vertical launch capacity to 40 Tomahawk-class or equivalent strategic munitions. More here -

By - Craig Langford - September 17, 2026  The procurement method and timetable for replacing HMS Protector remain undecided, more than two months after Defence confirmed that funding had been allocated for a successor to the Royal Navy’s Antarctic patrol ship. The latest position was set out in a written parliamentary answer to Conservative MP Ben Obese-Jecty, who asked when a decision would be made on both the method of procurement and the exact replacement timeline.

The island of Penrhyn in the northern Cook Islands has welcomed a New Zealand Defence Force contingent for the annual Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief task Exercise Tropic Twilight. 17 September, 2026 At the request of the Cook Islands Government and supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, more than 50 personnel have deployed to Penrhyn via a Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130J aircraft to deliver construction, maintenance, health, and hydrography tasks for the communities of Penrhyn.

British armored cruiser HMS Shannon as built with short funnels HMS Shannon was a Minotaur-class armoured cruiser built for the Royal Navy in the mid-1900s. Before the First World War, she served with the Home Fleet, generally as the flagship of a cruiser squadron. The ship remained with the Grand Fleet, as the Home Fleet was renamed when the war began, for the entire war, but only participated in a single battle, the Battle of Jutland in May 1916. Shannon spent most of the war patrolling the North Sea for German warships and commerce raiders. She was paid off in 1919 and sold for scrap in 1922.

A flotilla leader, she saw service in the Home Fleet before World War II and the ship made several deployments to Spanish waters during the Spanish Civil War, enforcing the arms blockade imposed by Britain and France on both sides of the conflict. Kempenfelt was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) in 1939 and renamed HMCS Assiniboine. During World War II, she served as a convoy escort in the battle of the Atlantic, sinking one German submarine by ramming, on anti-submarine patrols during the invasion of Normandy, and was employed as a troop transport after VE Day for returning Canadian servicemen, before being decommissioned in mid-1945.

HMS Illustrious was a light aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy and the second of three Invincible-class ships constructed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She was the fifth warship and second aircraft carrier to bear the name Illustrious, and was affectionately known to her crew as "Lusty". In 1982, the conflict in the Falklands necessitated that Illustrious be completed and rushed south to join her sister ship HMS Invincible and the veteran carrier HMS Hermes.
