I've been saying what Tim is saying here for a while now, and he's entirely right.
If you are convinced that AI is, despite its flaws & ethical failings, a reliable research tool, ask it a specific question in a domain you know very well. Most people - understandably - ask LLMs questions about areas they're not experts in. They can't judge if the information is accurate.

Remember, your maps will always be in the past. So just put the information you absolutely need and/or want on it and leave yourself plenty of room to tell more of the story or to change things when you get to an area.
