The #FraserRiver is integral to the economy, generating close to 10% of #Canada's GDP. To better understand how #plasticpollution could impact river health, and help inform solutions, we've teamed up with @ubcappliedscience.bsky.social to fill data gaps and provide future prediction models.

Our automated depth sampler, Ascension, provides a simple user interface. You control which channels to open and close, at your desired depths. Flow rate, filtration volume, temperature, depth and GPS are shown in real-time, and all data is automatically logged every minute.

We analyze microplastic samples in our ISO-5 Clean Laboratory using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (#FTIR). We can identify 20 of the most common plastic polymer types down to 10 microns and provide reliable polymer abundance, size, morphology, and chemical composition data. 🧑🏼‍🔬🔬

Ashleigh and Ethan enjoy exploring the Salish Sea by boat, paddle and fins. A new favourite past time is identifying the anemones and fish in Victoria while snorkeling. The waters are frigid, but the creatures are breathtaking.

Dr. Kim Parsons is a research geneticist at @fisheries.noaa.gov in Seattle. Her team uses Ocean Diagnostics' #eDNA depth and surface samplers to study large #marinemammals. By uncovering how #cetaceans travels in marine waters they can better inform conservation measures. 🐳🐬
