In his essay the Moon under Water George Orwell describes his perfect pub.
I think mine would have
- no music
- no TVs showing sport or news
- customer not using their phones and enjoying the company of others
- a fossil museum
And surprisingly I think I’ve found it the Square & Compass

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the trees are in bloom and Trump has not yet dropped a nuclear bomb on Iran - sometimes it is the small things in life which raise a smile

The ‘Fixing our broken planet’ exhibition at @nhm-london.bsky.social is depressing, yet fascinating. But it also makes me wonder if the museum has plans to reduce the amount of plastic sold in its multiple gift shops?

A reason to be optimistic in these bleak times? Greenham Common - once an airfield for nuclear bombers is now a nature reserve with orchids, adders and nightjars; the nuclear bunkers are now used for Star Wars films and the watchtower is now a splendid cafe.
