still don't love how vibecoding has made many engineers less attentive and less rigorous, but gotta say i love rapidly making single-use software for purposes no one before or after me has needed or will ever need

i think RFK Jr.'s colon-destroying steak and sauerkraut diet, tradwife culture, and Silicon Valley CNC parties are the same thing: a desperate attempt among powerful men to convince each other that gluttony, rapaciousness, and raw domination are not just their birthright but their responsibility

i do enjoy how most consumer ai video tools can only start a clip with their subjects stationary and placid, having to leap into motion and expression in the first second—made better by the fact that the tools’ users are either too oblivious or tasteless to edit around this

“Let’s move past this chart era” an all timer
Will, with all respect because this includes you, very few on Bluesky actually know what's going on or how to interpret charts. People clown on your charts because you're pushing a narrative just the same as your example. We're all human and people are just like that. Let's move past this chart era.

I have a social inept but kind hearted uncle who keeps using phrases like "water get place" and "liquid-sourcing shaft". He means well.

maybe i'll get the $20 gpt sub sometime. certainly feels like a more dignified way to address usage caps than going from $20 to $100 with anthropic. i largely see this spending as an investment in experience at the edge of consumer tech, so variety is valuable. pain to switch clis tho
the 2d opus 5.5. animation trend is a measurement of a real capability, but no more representative of general image work capability than the old ghiblifyers. frankly, gpt would probably be better for this, but i haven't bothered to get a codex subscription.

i have been testing opus 5.5 by building an pixel art image processing tool—not interested in ai art but don't mind using it to build deterministic software for art—and whatever people say about its image processing capabilities, it's not as good as people say

considering sentiment On Here really seems to correlate to who most recently released a new model, will be interesting to see the battle of public opinion after opus 5.5 and sol 6 were released on the same day

really hope the next opus update helps with the overdense claudisms. garbage verbiage like "Building it surfaced two bugs, both worth having found" goes beyond affect towards illegible and plainly wrong.

If he ordered the National Guard to start entrenching themselves on the Mall west of the Washington Monument people would rightly and immediately clock it as Bad, and yet this is Trump back-dooring the modern equivalent to flak towers from Nazi Germany into every illegal project and we get shrugs?

The agent "told the officer that agents had attempted to identify an individual who resembled a person they were seeking."

last night we had ed sheeran apologizing for saying what’s happening in palestine is bad and at the same time david byrne putting up a huge graphic that says MAKE AMERICA GAY AGAIN and showing footage of ICE brutality to a sold out crowd. you can actually be famous and successful AND give a shit.

the experience of COVID really drove this home for me. It wans't the apocalypse, life went on, but a million people died and there were enormous social costs, some of which continue to this day and then when it was done most people were like "let's never think about that again"
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.
