Doing basic science is always a great bet. Now that AI is going to try everything that smells useful, it’s an even better bet (especially in biology, where testing an idea means meeting the real world, and AI can’t just try everything)

If you’re running low on fascinating biology, look no further! Leah strikes again 👇
🩸🩸🩸TODAY WE SHARE TWO MAJOR DISCOVERIES🩸🩸🩸

1. We peered into genomes and brains of the rare mosquitoes that QUIT feeding on blood and found what biting is built from

2. Humans got rid of isoleucine in their blood, malaria suffers from it, and mosquito proteomes budget for it

Our diploid aware genomic language model is out!

1/6) The genomes we train AI models on do not exist. Most genomic language models read a single haploid sequence, but human genomes are diploid.

So proud of our new publication in @currentbiology.bsky.social
A wonderful collaborative effort spearheaded by the amazing @ethanewe.bsky.social from @odedrechavi.bsky.social
group, with the germline side expertly done by our very own Hanna Achache.

Thank you for doing this! You are tackling a problem without an immediate solution, so things will not be perfect right away, and there will always be criticism. I find the reviews very helpful and also the scoring. Please keep going!

Exactly! I feel at least @odedrechavi.bsky.social is doing something for our broken system. To me, this is also about starting a conversation and thinking what all is possible, rather than it being the final solution.

If one cannot criticise constructively, one shouldn’t criticise at all.

Say what you want about AI-review @qedscience.bsky.social, but at least it's focusing on whether you provide sound answers to the questions you ask & solid evidence for the claims you make, instead of judging you for questions you didn't ask or lack of evidence for claims you didn't make...

Absolutely! All the preprints from last year were scored. Just run any paper and see.
Can I see the top 5%? 20%? Or just the top 1%?
