Wapstan LE NORD (private SADE222) CD 36m Wapstan is the solo project of Canadian Martin Sasseville, known from the freaky rock band En Fer, but doing a completely different sort of music. As such LE NORD opens with all buzzing and highly modulated synthesizer tones, sounding much like Maurizio Bianchi's finest achievement REGEL, if with somewhat freeform Heldon like complexities. It's one of those ever evolving and mutating album length opuses that does a lot without really changing that much, as it swells, lulls and almost stops at one point (making it feel like two LP sides), always walking the fine line between listenable and oppressive power electronics.
