Reading Book of the New Sun for the 2nd time. Completely different experience everyone should experience.

Clearly Scifi, not fantasy
All the allusions to prophecy and future
Cacogens and spaceship are obvious this time through

So excited for this read

I don't get BOOK OF THE NEW SUN, but I want to!

So I wrote myself a syllabus and I'm reading it again, slowly, with a highlighter, chasing every theory I never understood.

I will become a BOTNS Nerd!

You roasted my TBR as a "red flag shelf". What's BookTube even for if it's just dunking on what people read?

What will be your job in Blood Meridian?

I’d be the guy who writes ‘NO CHILDREN’ on the scalp bounty contracts and die young because of my teeth

Rereading Blood Meridian after a lot of weird fiction & cosmic horror, and the way he describes the landscape, what it does to the men, the judge as a living archon (Azhrarn from Tanith Lee's Night's Master). It reads closer to Hodgson than any Western. Truth's in the middle.

Just finished The King in Yellow for my third time and the connection to True Detective finally clicked. Carcosa isn't a place, it's your country once you stop believing. New essay up on the Substack

Nights Master by Tanith Lee is the fantasy book I fight for.

No worldbuilding fluff but a rich vista of demons and curses, talismans, villains to heroes and back to villains again. Grim, horny, folkstories so cement I was waiting for Wishbone to pop up and narrate. Top tier

Just posted my review of The Heavenly Table by Donald Ray Pollock.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
1917, three broke brothers turn to crime, and a posse just as rotten chases them down. Way funnier and meaner than I expected.

It’s criminal that Donald Ray Pollock isn’t read as widely as he should, and the fan in me yearns for a new book soon…it’s been far too long! But if you’ve not discovered him before, I’d highly recommend ‘The Heavenly Table’ which is (IMO) the perfect novel!

1/2 through The Heavenly Table

Can't put it down

Like The Devil All the Time this is perfect Southern Gothic filth, murder sprees, bank robbing, venereal diseases, outhouse managers with horse cocks, every one working their bones for food, every page is nihilistic, sad, and disgusting.
