the experience of COVID really drove this home for me. It wans't the apocalypse, life went on, but a million people died and there were enormous social costs, some of which continue to this day and then when it was done most people were like "let's never think about that again"
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

Key to understanding this is that its purpose isn't educational, it's to send money to Anthropic which in turn sends money to companies in Harvard's portfolio (SPCX, AMZN, GOOG, NVDA, MSFT). Those are just the 13F public equity holdings, for all we know Harvard has billions in Anthropic itself.
