Paul Gregory Fisher is a British economist, who left the Bank of England in July 2016 after 26 years service. In September 2016 he was appointed chair of the London Bullion Market Association and in December 2016, he became a non-executive director at the UK Debt Management Office. Fisher has been a visiting professor at Richmond, The American International University in London since 2012; and is a senior research fellow in the new DAFM Centre of the Business School at King's College London. My dad managed to turn into the CIA parking lot as part of a series of 3 errors on the beltway.

I’m pretty sure they are crazy too but not in the “future AI god will torture us way” but more the “my army of AI slaves will replace you punny humans way”. My view is they play up the risk stuff in a more insincere reason to motivate people funding them to give them more cash.

People keep working in the industry hoping they can control and influence development in more positive directions but steadily get pushed out by the make money faster crowd and resign dramatically.

A decent part of this is that the CEOs arn’t in the cult (but sometimes borrow its talking points) but a chunk of middle management and line people are. So CEOs push maximalism while some mid level people and hangers on push back.

Yeah, my old one in DC was at the local park/rec centre but due to construction was in front of my favourite Thai restaurant. The best system was in AZ where you could drop a mail ballot at any polling place on election day. I would drop it at the local library and walk over to the Thai joint.
