Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 5 & The Lark Ascending - YouTube
www.youtube.com
#classicalmusic I'm sure I've written about the Vaughan Williams symphony no. 5 before. Lately I've been listening to some different recordings of it and I have thoughts.
First off, the Bryden Thomson recording has long been my reference recording of this piece.

Every country should be looking at Ukraine to see the future of war. Not just the effectiveness of their women fighters, but their use of cheap drones vs big expensive weapons that are sitting ducks against them, long-range drones to attack infrastructure, etc.
Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math."
At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."

He's running.... and if this is his platform, I'm on board.
We have to prepare for the day when Donald Trump will permanently leave the White House. And, even more importantly, the day after that.

A blue wave in the midterm elections won’t fix everything. Frankly, none of the immediate problems Americans face will be better immediately, because that isn’t how government works. And that’s all the more reason we need to push as many republicans out as possible now. (Thread)

This. Don't expect other people to get it right. Don't sit out the election because your favorite candidate lost the primary, or "both parties are just as bad" (they aren't). Get out there and vote like your kids' future, or our country's future, depends on it -- because it does.
We have one last chance to get this right on Nov. 3. Can I beseech you to do everything you can?

Once again, I've been saying since 2016 that Trump is literally insane because he cannot tell the difference between fact and fantasy, or truth and lies. And NOBODY in a position to do so is willing to say or do ANYTHING about the emperor's new clothes.
More evidence that he can no longer distinguish between his fantasies and the real world.
Trump claims he was basically lifted out of the rubble on 9/11: "Two fireman, big strong guys, they grabbed me under the arms -- 'got to get our of here!' -- and they literally lifted me up, and they started running with me."

He wants to send the troops to occupy Wall Street? Or just bomb the Treasury? 🤔
Reporter on Bond Market: The yields have come back up since then. Have you talked to Bessent about another type of intervention.?
Trump: The ultimate intervention is our military. And if we have to use that, we will.

If Trump showed up in the US House or Senate with armed goons and demanded the arrest of members who'd offended him, what would the current leadership of those chambers do?

Very unusual 18th-century portrait here. This is Margaret Kemble, American-born wife of the British general Thomas Gage. Besides the informal pose, she's wearing an elaborate faux-Turkish-style turban and caftan and no stays. 😳

It's early days yet, but I'm certainly paying attention to Ossoff. Still like Buttigieg, too, and I'd even take AOC seriously if she decided to run. I saw an article about Mark Kelly earlier today, but I think he's too old. Democrats do better when they run younger candidates!

I'm getting the impression that Ossoff isn't just running for the Senate.... 🤔
Ossoff: "Handing an out-of-control executive even more unfettered power just makes it even more vital that we restore checks and balances and constrain this president using our power as citizens as voters in these midterm elections."
