It’s not just the scale of the money.

It’s also the character of the people making the donations which is extremely worrying - as I argued in this thread over the summer ⬇️
The Telegraph just gave a convicted criminal a two-page spread to explain why he's pumping £4 million into Reform UK. They tucked his criminal record away in the small print. So as a former financial crime specialist I’ll do their job for them👇

Check out @petergeoghegan.bsky.social piece below on think tank and lobbying transparency - including a quote from myself on the opportunities available for government to act now and bring about long-overdue reform, as the @ethicsandintegrity.bsky.social itself has advocated for
🔴 Later today Danny Kruger MP is giving a speech about Reform's preparation for government at Policy Exchange.

Policy Exchange won’t say who funds it. But we’ve found donations to its US fundraising arm jumped 74% last year

And that's not all.... 🧵

Donors and office holders linked to influential British right-wing think tanks have also given at least $26.5m to Trump’s Republicans ahead of mid-term elections

Rachel Reeves is right.

Russia’s assets - not just the interest on them - should be seized to support the Ukrainian victims of Putin’s aggression.

The EU nations should move first as Belgium’s where the majority of frozen Russian state assets are.

Absolutely incredible 🤤
Harry Kane's Schnitzel supplier has presented the Ballon d'Or winner with a golden Schnitzel.

The England captain, who gets a Schnitzel for every Bayern goal he scores from a nearby inn, was given four €32 golden Schnitzels by landlord Stefan Kastner after his Ballon d'Or win.

A Budget that works for Bolton.

The big banks are finally paying their fair share, and that money is going towards your energy bills this winter. There’s help for our local shops and pubs, and new money to bring Bolton’s empty buildings back to life.

Watch to find out more 👇

Budget Snapshot:

£100 off energy bills for eligible households.

Fuel duty frozen and the 5p cut extended.

More help for those who need it most. And thousands more high street businesses paying no business rates.

Labour choices delivering help today.

Ahead of the budget today, I see a number of people are banging the drum for a wealth tax again.

As Chair @anticorruption-responsibletax.org have a look at my views on the matter.

TL:DR? It wouldn't raise the money advocates promise & there's far more effective ways to address the tax gap.

From leading a cross-party group to root out corruption in our politics and economy, to shouting as loud as I can in the Commons Chamber so your voices are heard. Here’s a day in the life representing the great people of Bolton, Westhoughton, Horwich and Blackrod 👇

It’s exactly this kind of behaviour which undermines trust in Parliament and which I was keen to call out in last week’s House of Lords reform debate in Westminster Hall.

Thank you @mbdauk.bsky.social for your continued investment in Bolton.

Some shocking figures here, which is why I’m pushing the government to expand the scope of the existing Anti-Money Laundering regime.
New analysis from Transparency International UK shows an estimated £2.2bn of suspected illicit wealth has been funnelled into new-build property in Britain since 2016.

Yet another example of close co-operation between the UK & Germany creating jobs, driving investment and leading to new opportunities across both our countries.

I don’t want to be sniffling away all winter. My wife definitely doesn't want to hear me complaining about it either 🤧

That’s why I got my flu jab this week. It only took a few minutes, and could save me a week on the sofa feeling sorry for myself.

These comments from US envoy Steve Witkoff are a complete betrayal to the innocent victims - men, women and children - of Putin’s unlawful and barbaric war of aggression in Ukraine.

That’s what happens when you let crony property developers take charge of your diplomacy.

A real joy to be at the German Embassy to mark 75 years of UK-German relations.

As a former Erasmus student, I know what close ties with Europe can do for young people.

But they have had those opportunities taken away by a decision made a decade ago, before many were old enough to have a say.

In 3 minutes, I explain why the Tory plan to abolish inheritance tax is despicable.

A vanishingly small number of estates in Bolton pay inheritance tax. The vast majority of us will never have anything to do with this tax. The threshold is rightly set so the very wealthiest pay their fair share. 👇

Very sad to find out that Councillor Pat Karney, a real stalwart of Manchester Labour Party, sadly passed away yesterday.

His sheer dedication - including more than 40 years in the town hall - was unrivalled.

He will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with all his many friends and his family.
