Maybe more than a whiff of treason. Alberta separatists are flat-out traitors to the nation. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

As someone who disagrees with the sentiment, this was a difficult piece to write. But as a social scientist, the evidence is clear.

Rather than debate which grievances are legitimate, we need to meet Albertans where they are emotionally.

I'm also tired of the grievance politics of the UCP
Since when did Albertans become such whiners
What happened to getting 'er done?
What happened to building and not just giving Alberta away to billionaires at bargain basement pricing?

Some days it just gets to me

it’s absolutely fucked that people are elevating these effective altruist freaks and falling for their rhetoric on AI.

media is letting these people set the narrative, while those of us following EA/longtermist circles for years know how insane they are. they consistently downplay climate risk.
Uhhh, why is anyone listening to this Nate Soares guy on AI??

“I think global warming is going to be fine. I think either we’re going to kill ourselves with the AI or we’re going to be able to invent the tech to just pull the carbon right out of the atmosphere. It’s going to be fine.”

Boneheaded!!

Just when I think I can’t hate OpenAI and Sam Altman any more, new details come out about how ChatGPT helped a shooter plan one of the worst mass shootings in Canadian history in Tumbler Ridge, BC.

OpenAI made an explicit decision not to report the user to authorities.
ChatGPT helped the Tumbler Ridge school shooter focus on guns, tactics, and terror, our investigation reveals
OpenAI’s chatbot fed the shooter’s violent fantasies and planning up to the massacre.

I'm in Alberta.

Our guy's on meth and season 8.
Everything I read about BC politics right now is like being cornered at a party while a guy on coke badly explains season 4 of a show you’ve never heard of.

Why are we still wandering lackadaisically toward a fifty year threshold -- and now aiming for 3.5?!?!?! 🤬

This kind of report should be accompanied by a press conference—not with some low-level bureaucrat, but with the prime minister. Flanked by all of his ministers. In prime time, with technical briefings.

This report says we're facing unimaginable disaster, yet we didn't even get a briefing.
Environmental groups say there’s a reason why the federal government quietly released its latest climate report, which finds that average temperatures in Canada are set to go up by at least 3.5 C by the end of the century.
Carney government accused of burying climate report warning of worsening impacts
The report, which analyzes the impacts of climate change in Canada, was posted to a government website with no fanfare on Thursday evening ahead of the Labour Day long weekend.
