Initially about the physics of global warming, but now there is so much else that needs the support of reality-based thinking.

To the left because that's where science and rationality are...

Take Action: Keep protesting until all Congress realizes that being "primaried" is not the problem they will be facing.

Make it clear that all of those who broke their OATH to support and defend the Constitution of the United States will be removed from the Congress that they are *not* serving

In two years we've gone from a standard where the President's budget proposal was a set of suggestions Congress would ignore to where Congressional appropriations are now a set of suggestions the President ignores.
Russ Vought: "We fund what we need to fund. I'm not at all shy about we want to spend billions of dollars on a new shipyard. We're up there defending the $1.5t that the Department of War needs. But it's also coming at a ton of reduction on the non-defense side"

The membership and performance of Congress will improve when those elected come to fear poor people more than they fear rich people.

I'm not the audience for the Smith hearing, but the main political issue here is that Republicans want the world to know that Smith subpoenaed congressional phone records as he investigated Jan. 6 etc, and nobody outside the Senate can explain to you why that's bad.

The "America Experiment" has not failed (per se).
As an experiment it has identified area for further development.

In particular, when the physical presence of speech in a town square is replaced by newspapers, radio, TV, and the virtual (non-) presence of the Internet,

This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it.
It was effectively banned as it never aired again.

I wonder why.

EVERYTHING to him is zero sum with a winner and loser, no mutual benefit. He's a chronic loser whose super power is finding even bigger losers to hold the bag when it falls apart. As a businessman, it was the banks. As a criminal, it was his lawyers. As president, it's going to be US citizens.

This time, it's not:

"It's the economy, stupid"
nor even:
"It's interest rates, stupid"
nor:
"It's the war, stupid"

This time, it's:
"It's the President: stupid"

Implementing a universal, single-payer healthcare system would save the U.S. more than $1 trillion and some 114,000 lives every year, according to a recent Yale University preprint study
Scientists calculated how much money and lives 'Medicare for All' might save—it's a lot
The study has been touted by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders as proof of the benefits of a universal, single-payer healthcare system, but the research hasn't been peer-reviewed

Another word I'm sick of, when used in connection with Trump, is "agenda."
Trump has cravings. Trump has impulses. Trump has pathologies. And he can't see beyond himself.
I have a tough time hearing his cravings, impulses, and narcissistic pathologies reframed as an "agenda."

This is not today's most important news but THAT IS THE POINT.

Anyone who doubts that the Roberts Court deliberately hides their most partisan rulings with careful timing should consider how little reporting there is today on NRSC v. FEC.

It gives Republicans a major boost in November's elections.

This illustrates how dumb POTUS is.

A $14M mistake that will require even MORE of our tax payer $ to rectify.

When you say "everyone", it takes only one counter example to disprove the assertion.

Will no one call him out on this?
RAJU: But what evidence is there to prove the California election is rigged?

MIKE JOHNSON: Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here.

Trump's executive order reaffirmed the administration's intentions to model US childhood vaccine recommendations after those of Denmark—a country with universal healthcare, less diversity, and a population about the size of Maryland’s.

Even Danish researchers think it's bizarre.

I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline.

“Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet.

Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming.

Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”

"They leaked his tax returns, they tried to destroy him."

If revealing your official tax returns -- something every single president and VP for forty years before Trump did voluntarily -- could possibly "destroy" you, that is the scandal.
US attorney for SDNY Jay Clayton defends Trump's taxpayer-funded J6 slush fund: "I don't think we're gonna be talking about this issue in a week because the American people are gonna say, 'Look, they leaked his tax returns, they tried to destroy him. Okay, we resolved that.'"

He's not planning on leaving. That's what the ballroom bunker equipped with drones is for. It's why he's calling for Thune to fire the parliamentarian who's refusing to allow the $1B for the ballroom in the reconciliation bill. It's why he's paying the insurrectionists with his slush fund.

People have in-depth conversation with LLM and wonder "maybe this thing is conscious?"

Maybe the lesson is: *our* conversations are sufficiently mundane/predictable that perhaps our conversations do not require consciousness?
