This week I asked a parent about travel history for Tb screening, and their preschooler piped up "we live on EARTH!" with such a tone of wonderment that I have thought about it ever since. We live on EARTH, how wild and weird is THAT?!

Every so often there's a specialist who starts diagnosing a condition in numbers out of proportion to reported incidence, and without doing the standard evaluation for it. Out in Pcp Land we start wondering after a few consults

I know what dry January is but bc I typically forget alcohol exists, just never appealed to me, my brain immediately goes "oh no are they dehydrated?"

My son doesn't want any cards referring to a religious holiday including Solstice but he does want a "season's greetings" card. Which I couldn't find 😂. So I made one. No snow here though. Our season is: rain rain rain!

My work is getting noticeably harder and more stressful, with parents quoting RFK Jr and turning down vaccines. I feel bad for them being misled. And put in this weird position where they get care from a system they distrust. It must be terrifying. Also makes me want to retire.

Send in comments to federal register on this proposed anti-trans kid rule. I know there will be lawsuits. Entirely hinges on a bizarre assertion that gender affirming care is "not healthcare" bc otherwise CMS is not allowed to pull this.https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2025-23465.pdf

Dreamed I opened my front door and an orange cat ran in, which I had to usher out bc allergic, and suddenly this anxious saleswoman was standing there talking a mile a minute and showing me carpet samples. I smiled but as she kept talking she started crying bc she knew I wasn't buying and ran off

Going tonight to Eureka city council mtng to speak in favor of trans sanctuary city resolution. A few weeks ago we proposed it and now it's up for vote! If your city doesn't have one, pls think about asking.

Every so often a parent tells me the school said their kid can't attend without adhd med. This is against the law for public schools including headstart. The right med can be life changing but education is a right regardless.

SCOTUS undermining state vaccine requirements reminds me of how the religious exemption was handled in Alabama when I lived there. The health department was gloriously picky-- couldn't be a personal religious view, had to be part of an established religion. Catholics would ask for exemption

Anyone know of a good parent resource that would go into more detail about how to evaluate medical evidence that is NOT from a source hesitant parents would automatically dismiss? Not saying this replaces formal education but to give a more detailed overview of the complex processes.

I want to dig holes for some plants in my yard. There's an 811 system to get the utilities marked-- they notify the companies. Everyone responded but internet. So I texted them and the rep said "I would like to advise you this is Optimum" and ended the chat. I just got sir this is a Wendy's by AI.
