I am NOT exaggerating when I say the new film IF I GO WILL THEY MISS ME is absolutely one of the best movies I have ever seen about manhood and fatherhood. The acting/writing/directing/editing is just breath-taking. PLEASE see this film and spread the word.

Today is National Dads Bring Your Child to School Day. Had honor of leading an interactive conversation with fathers at a public school in The South Bronx. A really beautiful and honest convo about manhood, fatherhood, emotional wellness, more.

TUPAC SHAKUR. This month/year marks 30 long years since he passed, sadly, tragically. I interviewed him many times, was there in Las Vegas when he died. This is the only thing I have to say about it all publicly, for now, my newest article for NEWSWEEK: www.newsweek.com/the-tupac-sh...
The Tupac Shakur I Knew
Tupac has become, 30 years after his murder, the most anointed rapper ever. I knew his heart, laughter and many contradictions.

Edwidge Danticat, great Haitian American writer, interviewed by writer Monique Truong about her new novel, at 8th annual Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival. It is one of the best gatherings on Caribbean literature I have ever attended. Happening all weekend. Google for schedule and how to support.

SEPTEMBER 11th is day any of us around then shall never forget. Like many I knew people who passed, affected me profoundly, still does in several ways. A couple of months after horrific tragedy in 2001, I wrote this poem, am sharing it here. Surreal to think it is now 25 years later. #September11

HAPPY LABOR DAY! My wife and I spend much time in nature, including today, with our books to read. JOY comes in many forms. This is a happy day, detached from the madness of the times. We gotta make these spaces happen whenever we can. And most parks are free….

ANY EXERCISE IS HARD, why even lie? Been an athlete since a kid. Baseball. Boxing. Skateboarding. Running. But training for my third NYC Marathon this year has presented all kinds of interesting challenges. But getting it done, even on this Labor Day holiday. Got the miles in. #noexcuses

GLORIA STEINEM, for me, was an ally, a sister. Like our mutual friend bell hooks, Gloria was truth, constantly evolving, even about her flaws, always ready to fight for justice for all. She supported my work in many ways, including funding critical things around Black manhood.
