#OTD in @PoliceGazette 1896: The first people ever to row a boat across an ocean, George Harbo and Frank Samuelsen as they appeared upon arrival in France from New York City. They were sponsored by the Police Gazette and named their boat after publisher Richard K Fox.

This Month in @PoliceGazette 1951: First in Gazette's "Hitler Is Alive!" series. Premise being Hitler escaped Germany & was plotting return. Largely a metaphor, series reminded readers Hitler's ideas were still alive & could return. By that measure, Hitler is still alive today.

This Month in @PoliceGazette 1955: The Gazette takes issue with a newspaper winning a Pulitzer Prize for an exposé on corruption in Phenix City, Alabama, when the Gazette had published a substantially similar exposé 8 years earlier & got nothing but grief from the same newspaper.
