Governments everywhere declared the pandemic over without cleaning indoor air, public health didn't explain how COVID spreads or the long term risks of infection (+ reinfections), we’ve all been forced back to normal (but with covid in the air) and large accounts here are dunking on people

🧪Where is SARS-CoV-2 circulating?

Below is a collection of useful surveillance sites from around the world - wastewater, genomic and respiratory-virus data - that may help you assess virus circulation in your area and make informed decisions about protection.

I keep hearing people say
they have been sick for weeks,
they have razor blade throat,
they have constant fatigue,
they have prolonged headaches,
they have lingering coughs,
they have a steady fever,
and I keep hearing
these same people say
that Covid was in the past.

"Six years after COVID-19 hit, four years after the virus has been allowed to run totally rampant without mitigation, the country is sicker than it’s ever been before, but we can’t come up with any reason why that would be other than “women be faking?”"

Covid is not over just because people got tired of hearing about it.

#SARSCoV2 is still circulating, still being detected in the air, and still causing chronic diseases like #LongCovid

Another reminder that the air we share is part of public health infrastructure.

Clean air is public health.
“Air sampling at four US airports in 2023 and 2024 detected SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in over 98% of samples and influenza A in over 17%, according to a study published in PLOS Global Public Health”

Airport air sampling captures COVID, influenza viruses
Researchers say air monitoring complements wastewater testing in detecting respiratory pathogens from diverse populations, including asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic people.

This is why I go nuts when people say "during Covid" meaning 2020-2021 as if it's over. I always say "during the early days of Covid" Because Covid has never left and is never leaving.

Identifying social norms as a source of infections is key.

After lovely summer outdoor get togethers, there was pressure for an indoor restaurant.

Solution:

Fall= outdoor restaurant with heaters.

Winter = phone calls, FaceTime.

Keeping in touch doesn’t have to mean keep getting infected.
I heard one student say to another that they were sitting next to someone that was coughing, and they were desperate to get up and move away, but couldn’t because it would be noticed and disrupt the lecture.

These are the social norms public health has failed to address.

When a saltation variant occurs with COVID-19 it’s reported by variant hunters and we immediately reassure the public that it’s not going to be another pandemic even if it does go around the whole planet… just because it’s not as bad as when we first foolishly decided to let this thing spread.

The UK govt is openly waging war on trans people, on people with ME and long covid, on neurodiverse people, on people with mental health issues, on disabled people, on immigrants and black and brown people.

And both the UK media and establishment are complicit.

Vile fucking country.

27/n Finally, acute disease is not the only concern. SARS-CoV-2 infection carries a risk of longer-term consequences, including Long COVID, which in some people can be severe and disabling. Reducing infections therefore remains beneficial for everyone.

3/n Saltation variants are different. They appear with an unusually large number of mutations compared with their closest known predecessors, often including many changes in spike.

1/n “Regular” variants vs. saltation variants

The WHO ended the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency of International Concern in May 2023, but the virus did not disappear. SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate globally. One important reason is its ability to evolve and evade pre-existing immunity.
