a couple years ago someone on here who i assume was like 12 tried to argue getting rid of sex pests in animation was as simple as ostracizing anyone whose vibes are off because they're sort of weird, as if the psychographic of people who get into animation includes being like super, extra normal

There's a really good Noodle video about a similar phenomenon with the first Matrix movie. The short version is color grading is an art, not a science. This sort of thing is worth being aware of, but if you get hung up on which version is "correct" you're getting hung up on the wrong thing.

I find this stuff fascinating; this is basically the animation world's equivalent of how pixel art games were designed to be played on glass tube TVs. The "imperfections" created in the process of publishing the work are part of the planned end product.
The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released.
Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore:

I'm rewatching the new GitS already and I'm really appreciating how much time it gives to the physicality of computer hardware. Stuff like the major's loose wire in her audio connection, or the step-by-step of the tactile details of the construction of a cyborg body.
