Direct Direct is best for those who can confront people but remain calm Intervention is meant to deescalate, not raise tension Direct is exactly what it sounds liRe; if it is safe to directly interact with the person causing a disturbance you address them. Direct is not an opportunity to join a fight. An example of a good time to use direct would be if you hear problematic language such as slurs being used. If it is safe for you to do so addressing the person and saying "you're really maRing me uncomfortable, please stop" is direct intervention. Direct worRs really well with a buddy. If one person tells the person that they're maRing them uncomfortable and don't st o p, ha vi n g a friend o r two c h i me i n to say that they're a Is o u n co m f o rt a b I e does wonders. Big mouths are easily shamed when told they're being a problem. @rachaelt.bsRy.socia I Delegate Delegate is best for those who Rnow what needs to get done but maybe aren't as confrontational or it's not safe to be direct Delegate is good for when you can see a problem and can identify what needs to be done to deescalate. Take the loud mouth scenario, maybe you delegate by getting your confrontational friend to go ask them to stop using dangerous language. Maybe it looks like going and finding security and asking them to tell them to stop. Delegation is great for when it's not safe to jump into the conflict yourself. Delegate is also fantastic in a first aid situation. Maybe you see someone in need of medical care but you aren't qua Ii fie d to do it. You can ca 11 9 11, you can get others to get involved if needed. Intervention isn'tjust about conflict, sometimes it's about assembling a team. @rachae lt.bsRy .socia I Distract Distract is probably the most fun of the three d's Distract is for those who see a conflict, Rnow something needs to be done, and can tap into their class clown tendencies to pull attention LiRe the other two, distract is exactly what it sounds liRe. You are going to become a distraction. Do you have a bag you can drop and then clean up? Can you trip and fall? Do you liRe to dance in public? These are all excellent ways to distract and d if fuse tensions. A great example of distraction as a dee s ca I at ion are the Po rt I and frogs o r TUrRiye PiRachu. They were able to join large scale protests and destroy the message that protesters were dangerous and destructive. The point of distract is to pull attention off of the conflict giving the person being harassed a chance to get away. whenever I do an intake I always try to end the call with asking the person what they have planned as a little treat for themselves for being brave and seeking help for the abuse they've suffered, and this one person today said that they'd just gotten a dog and the joy in their voice was incredible

This is alarming. Armed police officer entered a Quaker center in Philly while anti-ICE meeting was occurring. A Mennonite pastor volunteering at meeting sign-in desk escorted officer out but then that officer & another stayed & surveilled the building for 3 hours.
