Now deep diving into renewable energy for Renew Economy and charging policy for The Driven. All posts deleted after 3 months (except the ones I really like).
Tilting at windmills? An anti-wind group in Victoria is using what some are calling scare tactics to fight a series of wind farms.

Others say they're being led up the garden path with no chance of success. 🔌 #auspol

One Nation and the Liberals want to cancel a planned transmission line in Victoria.

Doing so will risk enough wind and solar projects to power the equivalent of more than four Melbournes. 🔌

This is what anti-renewable energy people are saying about *their neighbours* in Victoria, thanks to a rise in vicious protest groups. 🔌
"Intimidation and bullying:" As some anti-wind farmers stage a "fightback," others are counting the cost
As one group wages war against "renewables multinationals," farmers wishing to host transmission towers or wind turbines are caught in an increasingly nasty crossfire.

The excuse is usually they don't have the same fire hose of cash.

But I speak to so many PRs who are tearing their hair out about renewable energy clients and the industry generally: it's not hard to get out in front of a story you know is coming. So why aren't they? 🔌
Outgunned: Five fossil fuel lobbyists spent $553,000 on Meta ads in August, the renewables industry just $3,090
Fossil fuel lobbyists are flooding social media with ads, outgunning the minimal effort of the renewables industry, which is leaving the work to cash-strapped NGOs.

This has been a bit tricky to get to the bottom of. Blowing a fan across the ground does cause drying - but how much? And when?

These guys have some answers. But there is no data for Australia yet because as far as I can tell, no one is researching this here 🔌
Do wind turbines make droughts worse? A new study says they do not
By mixing different air layers, wind turbines can make surface air temperatures slightly warmer at night but they don't cause long term soil drying.

A 10% loss rate would break the industry, insiders say. 🔌
Do 10pct of solar panels really arrive broken? Probably not, but best to double check
Industry insiders reject a persistent anecdote that 10% of solar panels arrive at major projects broken, but testers say they wouldn't be surprised.

It's more financially viable for border force to bust a boatload of cocaine than a few thousand bucks of old solar panels. 🔌
Solar waste smuggling: The PV recycling problem kicking the industry while it's down
Exports are still "the biggest threat" to solar recycling feedstock supplies, without a stewardship scheme to make recycling more attractive.

Australia's solar PV recycling plans on hold after flagship pilot project suspended
Flagship pilot program to set up 100 sites around the country to collect used solar PV panels has been suspended, with no word on when it might resume.

Don't make the same mistakes we did, oil & gas people warn green energy people.

Also, the hysteria that taxpayers will eat this is probably wrong It'll be industry via the Northern Endeavour levy, which is another lesson for renewables - don't let the bad eggs fuck it up for everyone. 🔌
Renewables sector learning from messy failures after oil company collapses with $200m clean up bill
Another oil and gas company collapse raises new concerns about who picks up massive clean up costs of decommissioned fields, and the renewables industry is watching closely.

But OneVentures' Dr Jeannie Joughin says the market might be *underestimating* the opportunity.
