The Scottish Government announced last week that it was proceding with a Basic Artists Income scheme! Here are some notes I took from a roundtable about bringing the scheme over to Scotland, with some of the points that need to be addressed to make it a success.
Firstly, the Irish pilot saw 2000 artists (picked by lottery) receiving €325 (~£280) a week for three years. Artists reported better mental health and more time spent creating. For every €1 invested in artists, there was an estimated €1.39 generated. The scheme is now permanent and ongoing.

at some point i wanted Fandroid to be a fully voice acted character pretty much entirely on a whim. i only got as far as recording one line before i gave up since it'd make it harder to rewrite dialogue, and also i thought it would be more fun for people to voice the characters themselves

my little point on this is that its never necessarily a bad thing and doesnt always translate into sales! The only time i've ever had a bad experience bc of a big table next to mine is when the zine fair put my table next to someone who's display actively blocked mine from the line of sight
