Brené Brown but a Klingon:
Fear is contagious, but so too is courage. If we are afraid together, then let us be brave together. Witness our courage take root and grow, and watch as our challenges crumble at the sight of our glory.

I am the local LD councillor and I have not supported this campaign. No one asked me to, presumably because they knew what I'd say. This just absolutely, categorically untrue.
Missed this from various reporting of Piddlington. Lib Dems eh?

So I have several friends who've left cults and high-control organisations; an interest in "rationalism" in an older, less completely insane sense; and I'm learning to code.

I did not expect the nexus of these interests to be "Harry Potter fan fic fans will regulate the advancement of technology".
agree with this entire thread

the problem with the cult shit, other than being baseline evil, is that it displaces reasonable regulations with insane anti-paperclipper insurance and sane people with ideologically compliant paperclip-fearers
Why talk about how nuts the AI rationalist sex cult is, and not just focus on the (very real) risks and harms of AI?

Well, when we're discussing "who should get to regulate AI, and how," I think it's VERY relevant to talk about the antisocial, unsettling ways many people running US AI think.

Screw it, I'm just going to use fibreoptics for everything.

I wish I didn't understand this tweet
It’s very simple. A reality TV host became dictator because he turned down a role for Sharknado 4 and that’s why the king of outer space, who cheats at Diablo, got to kill Africa. Now the economy is controlled by a sex cult that has something to do with Harry Potter fanfic because of robots.

It’s weird how AI has been something you read about in the sci-fi and fantasy section of Barnes and Noble most of my life and now it’s an actual thing people talk about. It feels like waking up one day and people are debating gnome regulations.

Interestingly only 2/19 patients on GLP1 RAs who regurgitated had pulmonary aspiration. Not possible to infer much about anaesthetic technique, especially given the issues were largely at emergence.

(Anecdotally find TIVA better for clearer delineation between awake and asleep.)
Launching now! #AC26

GLIMPSE: GLP-1 receptor agonist Management in the Perioperative Setting

⚠️ 1 in 36 patients undergoing anaesthesia care received GLP-1 RAs ⚠️

⚠️ The incidence of pulmonary aspiration and/or regurgitation was 1 in 71 ⚠️

Well, when I was 20, I was hating med school so I'm not sure what he'd think that I've entirely embraced NHS management, education and clinical medicine.

Probably be a bit surprised I didn't do the band thing basically at all.
Would 20 y/o you be impressed or disappointed by you today?

Very nice to hear a sane voice from Piddington. Serious respect to this woman, who is apparently already being othered by more bigoted villagers.

I dislike the term "rationalist" because now when I hear it, it is followed by something deeply irrational. I hear it not infrequently in humanist circles.

Assuming this thread is correct, the truth of my assertion has gone well beyond my wildest dreams.
I'm back, I missed you all.

Since this is an important subject I know too much about, here's a 🧵 explaining that

AI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult.

I don't think these people should make policy. (1/?)

"What stuff do you get in your social media feed?"
"Funny videos."
"Fashion stuff."
Me: "updates on the aftermath of the negotiations following the Swedish election from a Professor of EU law."
New update on #Swedish elections. At this stage 21.48 tonight nearly all the final remaining election districts have been counted (302 out of 314) and the mandates between the blocs are unchanged, 176 for the social/left/centre bloc and 173 for the right/liberal/populists.
Update; election results are in and as suspected the results are very tight. Currently, the social/left bloc holds 176 mandates whilst the right/liberal/populist holds 173 mandates. Final counting is expected to be finalised by Wednesday. /1

Ex-did stand up + ex-intervarsity debater = been to a fair bit amount of the UK. If I didn't need to go to bed, I'd be tempted to attempt a list.
I think this is not uncommon? Basically, the only people I know who are really well-travelled within the UK are football away-dayers?
