Thanks for the timely reminder @matthewjdowd.bsky.social 🫖
on this day in 1937 Zora Neale Hurston first published her masterpiece, Their Eyes Were Watching God.

"Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place."

"There are years that ask questions and years that answer."

Another excellent week of music non-stop in the big smoke: Saint Etienne live last night, the scintillating new Oasis doc at IMAX beforehand, a ton of cool projects on the go and Atlanta on my mind 🌍

This was amazeballs. “How long until Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu or members of Fleetwood Mac attempt something similar?” ☕️
★★★★ #BillyCorgan @southbankcentre.bsky.social - the US rocker reinvents one of #SmashingPumpkins @smashingpumpkins.bsky.social best-loved albums, as 1995's 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' is given a major make-over - review @ralphusmoorus.bsky.social www.theartsdesk.com/new-music/bi...

Had a blast with Billy Corgan and co at London’s Royal Festival Hall last night. Conductor James Lowe says: "It’s been so gratifying to discover how the nuances and layers of Mellon Collie reveal themselves in fresh new ways in these symphonic, choral and operatic settings.” 🪐

This week went a little something like this. Next month’s Voices Radio show will be a tribute to maestro William Orbit 🕊️

My twenties at Manumission are full of night and after-hour morning memories like this and my most treasured possession was my Jacques Up red tee from Wall Of Sound 📚

I officially learned something new today 🫖
Judd Lander also plays harmonica on the Sprouts' 'Looking For Atlantis'.
On which Matt Johnson brings together ABC's David Palmer on drums, Zeke Manyika of Orange Juice on backing vocals, Judd 'Church Of The Poison Mind' Lander on harmonica, and future Marillion frontman Steve Hogarth on piano.

Had a blast catching up with Calvin Bush at @woodstbear.bsky.social last night: the final On Tour book talk! Many thanks to everyone who came across town to hear us talk about One Dove, Daft Punk, Josh Wink & Bob Sinclar. Still can’t believe there’s a guy in Wood St who has 98 of the 99 issue run 📚

Old haunts, new perspective. This is where it all started for me, at Hatfield House on Stamford Street. Hope to see some of you at Wood Street Bear in Walthamstow tonight…!

I concur 📚
40 years ago today, Marvel launched The New Universe. Created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the birth of the Marvel Universe, it was doomed from the start by internal politics, and limped to a conclusion 3 years after its inception. Probably the best things about it were the teaser ads.

Some of the best special effects eyeballs in the business. RIP Brian Johnson, dreamer of dreams maestro
RIP Special Effects master Brian Johnson (1939 - 2026). Some of the movies / TV Johnson worked on.

It’s a Kylie, Prince and Saint Etienne kind of week, meaning the very best kind 📚

This is a great thread and review and I agree with pretty much all of it! Emily Blunt is the MVP in Disclosure Day and this performance is up there with Edge Of Tomorrow 🫖
DISCLOSURE DAY - I definitely enjoyed it and you will too if you temper your expectations. It's not "best Spielberg in 20 years" and not quite close to his masterpieces. It's still a good conspiracy science fiction, where his passion for the subject of UFO really shines #film #review #DisclosureDay🎥

I’ve spent a fortnight being consumed by Inferno. The more I listened, the more questions it seemed to raise. What started as a few notes soon turned into a track-by-track exploration of the album and the ideas I found within it.

If you’d like to read my thoughts then please click the link. Thanks.
