Council housing works. Salford has proved it, building hundreds of new council homes despite years of austerity. Now let's give Councils the powers and funding to build at scale. Genuinely affordable social rent, with homes kept in public hands for generations.

Positive to hear mention of strategic regional investment this week. Alongside it I called for detailed local industrial strategies that build our domestic productive capacity, strengthen supply chains and create good jobs in communities in Salford and across the country.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, I’m proud to support the Samaritans and the Premier League #TogetherAgainstSuicide campaign. Suicide is preventable. A conversation, a check-in or simply listening can make a difference. No one should have to face a crisis alone.

In Parliament, I raised serious concerns with the Justice Secretary about understaffing, under-resourcing, violence and overcrowding in our prisons.
More prison places alone won’t solve the crisis. We must invest in the staff and resources needed to keep our prisons safe.
