I have resigned from the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's Independent Standards Board.

The Protocol is openly violating its own rules and has effectively delegated forest carbon accounting standards to a secret, industry-led working group.

This -- autonomous vehicles leading to vastly more congestion, more total vehicle miles driven -- is very predictable, and frequently predicted. Far as I can tell, none of the enthusiasts, in industry or in the cities opting for this stuff, gives a shit. It's maddening.
New research examines Waymo's California robotaxi trips btw Aug 2023 and Dec 2025.

Conclusion: 46% of miles driven involved no one inside the car.

That's 40 million miles of deadheading, with Waymo vehicles using road space w/o transporting a human.

Sharing a fascinating graph of fuel use by the global cement industry, made by my colleague, Christy Stanker.

We often think of the cement industry as running on coal. After all, the only coal-burning facilities left in California are cement kilns. But the truth is more complex and interesting.

The Trump administration is going to spend tens of millions of dollars to remove and presumably destroy hugely valuable oceanographic observing systems, more than a decade before the end of their service life.

Don't teach us, we don't want to learn.

This really is quite something. In the 15 years @carbonbrief.org have tracked UK media, 2025 was first ever year where more newspaper editorials opposed #climate action than supported it.

Meanwhile, the *actual* climate crisis deepens by the month. Go figure.

Great thread from @rebeccawdell.bsky.social on what is actually happening with oil and gas. Yes, the #StraitofHormuz closure cut off a lot of exports; but those have been partially compensated by drawing down reserves. That can't last much longer.
