Baseball playoffs is my favorite season of the year. Bonus: the Yankees are not on YES, meaning I don't need to shove spoons in my ears to block out Michael Kay.

I’m only a few hours in but even within the first hour, the gameplay immediately shows it’s a step up right from the get go with the matchstick/twists on metroidvania mechanics
Also, this is his best art full stop. Same whacky designs, incredible environmental detail, lighting & color work

#21: Astral Ascent
I first reviewed this almost 3 years ago. It went free on Epic recently, and a few mutuals were speaking about it, so I figured I would revisit it to see what's changed. Well, now I have a shiny new Platinum trophy. I highly recommended it back then and recommend it again now.

Thank you to @tophatstudios.bsky.social for the advance code and thank you thank you thank you to @kylethompsondev.bsky.social for this wonderful game. Easily a favorite of mine, not just in 2026, but all-time.
Don't get it wrong, we are excited to review all the games we get access to but, this one happened to be on both of our most anticipated lists. Check out Jason's review of Well Dweller from @kylethompsondev.bsky.social:

I've been following the game since it was announced. This was so cool to experience. I cannot wait for Early Access.
In only 46 days, Emberville from @emberville.bsky.social launches into Early Access. Shout out to @evolvepr.bsky.social for giving us the opportunity to experience a preview of the prologue.

One more Astral Ascent point.
I did a little email exchange with the devs over the process of improving as a dev. Still one of the more fun things I've done with the blog. I really should pursue more opportunities like this.
Go get Astral Ascent!!!

How Hibernian Workshop Got Better And Delivered One of The Best Games of 2023
About a month back I purchased Astral Ascent, a game that has quickly skyrocketed up my Game Of The Year list. After following the dev, Hibernian Workshop, on twitter, I was struck by a tweet where…

Finally! The season ends in a week and I'll have 100% of the trophies. This trophy was arguably one of the worst trophies I've ever gone after. Feels great now but this truly sucked

I'm not paying for Apple TV to watch 3 Yankees games over the whole season. WTF. I already had to jump through hoops to get the stupid YES network. Make it make sense
