New platform, same me. Let's get started with an #introduction?
I'm Redmaker, or just "Red". I'm #nonbinary (he/him or they/them), from germany, but expect most content in english. I'm an #indie #musician, #videogame collector, educator, very open minded, and clearly leftist. #fucknazis

Your bad art is better than AI slop.
four frame comic. first frame shows a typical AI poster that says : All chatgpt flyers look the same, especially with this font! the text above it reads : I won't go to your event if the poster was made by AI. second frame shows a still frame from a Hank Green youtube video. text above reads : I won't read your post or email and I won't watch your video if they were made with AI. third frame shows an AI restaurant poster of burgers and chicken in a window. text reads : I won't patronize your shop or restaurant if it is advertised with AI. last frame shows an MS paint window with badly written : Your bad art is better than AI slop. text reads : if you can't take the time or make the effort to interact with me yourself, then why should I do it?

I always thought that "listen, it doesn't matter how famous you are, you got literally be Scorsese - AI will tank your reputation and your career" would remain a hypothetical but here we are

Statement from The Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800 on Martin Scorsese’s recent promotion of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Art Directors Guild represents storyboard and concept artists in live-action film, series, and commercials
Statement from The Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800 on Martin Scorsese’s recent promotion of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): "Mr. Scorsese, The Business is not in flux. Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese is turning his back on the human artists who throughout his career have helped him create his most memorable works. In the recently released Black Forest Labs video promoting their generative AI product FLUX, Mr. Scorsese asks the question, “how do you communicate what you see in your head to your cast and crew?” He claims the solution is the use of this generative AI program to do the jobs that are rightfully the jurisdiction of Art Directors Guild Local 800 artists and designers - human artists and designers who have been successfully collaborating with directors to visualize their films for decades. Mr. Scorsese's promotion of a generative AI product circumvents the input of Art Directors Guild Local 800 art directors, graphic artists, illustrators, production designers, scenic artists, set designers, and other talented Union professionals. Generative AI is only capable of producing this type of “cinematic intelligence” by ingesting large swaths of copyrighted work, likely scraped from the internet without consent, credit, compensation, or transparency. The skills of Art Directors Guild Local 800 artists and designers bring the highest level of value to any film or television production. To think their professional contributions can be mimicked or outshone by generative AI, which is built on work likely stolen from them and many other artists from around the world, is a betrayal of the collaborative nature of cinema."

Deepfakes are everywhere, but digital forensics investigators are fighting back.

Learn more: https://scim.ag/42dMPBg
To verify images, digital forensics investigators will often check whether the geometry of the scene is realistic. In a real photo, lines that run parallel in reality—like floor tiles—should meet at a single vanishing point. In this image, however, the dotted lines do not meet in a single point, indicating it is a fake. Image: an AI-generated image of soldiers marching down a hallway in three lines, wearing fatigues and carrying rifles. Four dotted white lines have been added over the image, running along the floor tiles visible in the foreground and extending back to where the vanishing point should be, behind the soldiers. Instead of meeting in a single point, the lines all cross at different points. Investigators also examine reflections. The lines connecting points on an object to matching points in its mirror image run parallel in reality, so similarly should meet at a vanishing point. In this image, the lines again do not converge on one point, revealing it to be a fake. Image: An AI-generated image of a plastic cartoon dinosaur toy with its reflection visible in a small mirror. Four dotted white lines are layered over the image, connecting points on the toy with the same points on its reflection: the top of its eye, the end of its jaw, its hand, and its foot. The lines extend out to the side of the image, where they all cross at different points rather than meeting at a single point. Shadows can be a giveaway, too. Because the Sun is so far away, its rays are essentially parallel when they reach Earth's surface. That means that the lines connecting points on an object to the shadows they cast in sunlight should also intersect at a vanishing point. In this Al-generated image, that is clearly not the case. Image: An AI-generated image of colorful, semi-transparent plastic cubes arranged in a group in a city plaza. Six dotted white lines are layered over the image, connecting corners of several cubes with the corresponding corners in their shadows. The lines extend upward off the edge of the image, toward where a vanishing point should be. Three of them converge on roughly the same point, but two extend further, and one cuts across all the others at an angle.

I think the most interesting thing to take away from this for me is that -as you'll hear me say in a lot of talks- our job as game devs is to be really good liars. Putting that wind cone up is a brilliant lie - it suggests winds well enough that players will read the physics wonkiness as wind.
ottoojala.com Otto Ojala @ottoojala.com · Apr 25
Added some wind. Why fix a bug when you can just cover it up with a new feature - the rope physics wasn't always super stable but the wind now hides it pretty well... And the wind cone is fun to look at.

Also my partner, with ADHD, just 30 seconds later:

So I got that Minecraft server with my partner, and he did a little bee farm, and he loves it when in the morning "his squadron takes over air superiority", and thus I asked if he minds if I were to "redesign" the area a little bit...
I think that'll do.

I got a great question on my Ramadan thread: do Muslims also need to avoid consumption by proxy in videogames? Does consuming in-game food or drink break the fast? Basically: does your character have to go fast?

The answer is no, unless you happen to be playing Sonic the Hedgehog.
