Do you remember news stories from France at the beginning of October about student protests? Those students may not have known it, but they were protesting #ClimateChange.

The students knew they were “protesting to demand better learning conditions and more investment in public education.”

Among the many things I admire about Sir Patrick Stewart is his allyship in the resistance to spousal abuse (that overwhelmingly is violence by men against women).

Why are our efforts to mitigate the impacts of #ClimateChange so hard? According the Genevieve Gunther, it’s because too many elites have too much invested in the status quo (and the status quo is a fossil fueled economy).

A thread.

There’s a nasty drought in Afghanistan. It’s so bad families are feeling pressured to sell off their very young daughters as brides.
‘I am still a child, it cannot be good to be married’: how drought forces Afghan families to sell girls as brides
As climate breakdown pushes families to starvation, many feel forced to ‘sacrifice’ daughters to save siblings, with girls as young as eight and 10 engaged or married to repay debts or pay for food

At least we in California are still paying attention to the science.

The news about #ClimateChange is grim. The New York Times reports on the latest California Climate Assessment. Summers last 50% longer than they used to. Snowpack disappearing, which means summer water supplies disappearing.

There is so many problems that need to be address, so much work to do. Breathe. Relax. Rest. Meditate/pray. Be. Don't just do something; stand there. All of these are acts of resistance, too, and they are life sustaining as well.
P.S. Check out the brief thread this skeet comes from for context.
So creating pockets of stillness, slowness, and purposeful inefficiency (at least how the extractive economy would define it) is really a critical thing right now. And having those slow processes also be able to sustain material needs so that there is an alternative to spiral of ever decreasing time

Also in here: The only major faith group polled that shows majority approval of Trump right now are white evangelicals. They're also the only faith group where a majority doesn't think he's using the presidency to enrich himself.

However, Trump has net disapproval from Christians overall.

Does it really take twenty heavily armed federal agents to arrest one grandfather in pajamas?

The news about the feds arresting 28 people in California for allegedly registering to vote when they aren’t eligible to do so has absolutely nothing to do with arresting these 28 people.
