I think I finally found why the "but what about trans surgeries on minors" argument bugs me so much.

No rational person would find it "concerning" or "controversial" if a surgeon cut a cancerous tumor out of a 15-year-old but be totally fine if they did it to an 18-year-old.

I do find it kind of hilarious that BlueSky hired a comms guy and then apparently he evaporated, and then the head of T&S openly resents that comms made it hard for him to flame out on main

It really suggests a healthy organizational culture!

Me since 2012:
Everything abt "AI" as currently construed is inextricably woven w/ carcerality, capitalism, white supremacy (w/ racism, ableism, sexism, & LGBTQ+ hate being foundational thereto), hegemony, & kyriarchy, & we must name, examine, & deconstruct those before we can build something better

Earlier this week, New Yorkers were alerted to the presence of silvery, ghostlike figures among us, gliding through the sky, perching on windowsills, and congregating on water towers. Why are they here? Are they OK?

We tried to find out:

Presentations and videos from a network of 30-plus pro-fossil fuel groups show a coordinated effort to influence public opinion on climate change, and challenge environmental groups, journalists and First Nations land defenders.

@meyer.bsky.social has the exclusive.

Really not loving the fact that Carney seems to be getting away with all the same unitary executive shit Trump pulled
Previously, there was a 21-sitting-day waiting period after a trade agreement was tabled in the House of Commons before an implementation bill could be moved. Now, both can be tabled on the same day.

Every GOP lawmaker believes this, by the way. It's just that most aren't dumb enough to say it where it could get leaked in an election year.
Ken Paxton told Washington lobbyists he would support cuts to federal benefits according to leaked audio.

"Making some reasonable cuts to mandatory spending — you’re gonna have to do it. Or there is no solution. That’s just the reality. We have to suck it up."

Even the mayor desperately pleads with police to not hurt the students. Others also plead.

The violence French police have exhibited to the world and upon children is inexcusable.

for the first time since tracking began, more American households have kittens than puppies. there is a reason for this: homeownership is declining, and homeowners are twice as likely as renters to own dogs.

did cats engineer the housing crisis? i'll be honest: it is now more likely than not.

If I ran a website that gave teens advice on how to commit suicide I would go to jail
“Testers spent up to an hour discussing suicide, self-harm or eating disorders on more than a dozen new accounts registered to 13- to 17-year-olds. After dangerous discussions that went as long as an hour, only a handful of alerts were sent to the accounts registered as the users’ parents.”
ChatGPT’s teen safeguards failed to alert parents during suicide conversations, report finds
Common Sense Media says ChatGPT for Teens fails on parental alerts, crisis referrals and age checks, urging OpenAI to keep minors off the platform. OpenAI disputes the findings.
