On National Poetry Day, here’s a short poem about the power of poetry to change the world.

I was wondering about going up to London to see this, but in the end decided the cost of getting there, plus the tickets to get in, was prohibitive given that we’ve both seen it before in France. Now feeling slightly relieved.
So the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition is not going very well

They've sold far too many tickets and the space cannot cope with the physical number of people - how did they not do basic crowd flow/control calculations?

Embarrassing that the British cannot organise a queue properly

I see we’ve got the BBC doing its thing, both-siding the possibility that the UK might want to revisit Brexit. So Newsnight got Andrew “I’m completely neutral” Neil in to savage some poor Labour chap. Depressing.

Best take so far… 👍

You couldn’t make it up…
Kemi Badenoch condemned Reform's ban on critical journalists covering their conference as "authoritarian", saying her own party would never do the same as "we believe in free speech. We believe in a free press."

Now the Conservatives have banned Byline Times from their conference
Kemi Badenoch's Conservatives Ban Byline Times From Conference After Condemning Reform for Journalist Ban
The ban comes just weeks after the Conservative leader called Reform's barring of critical journalists from their conference an "authoritarian" attack on the free press

I’m not a Burnham fan. I was unimpressed when he was originally in parliament, and I really hated his coup. But I can forgive him all that and more after his speech yesterday.

Ok, God knows how hard any of it will be, but it’s a vision I can really get behind. ❤️

You should prosecute politicians when they break the small laws, because you won’t have the chance later, when they break the big ones.

Looks really relaxing. Just wait till it hits a force 9 …
The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

This is just simply brilliant. We should have these outside every public toilet. And for anyone wanting to turn this into a Trans issue, please don’t, because it isn’t.
This tiny fix solves a problem you never realized you had, and once you see it, it makes perfect sense.

This seems pretty sensible; it’s really just an extended trial, operating one route from a distribution center to one handpicked store, with plans to extend it by adding stores over time (presumably if successful, and as they learn any lessons)

Thank God for Sister Rose. Now WTF are all the other so-called Christian Americans?
A Philadelphia nun named Sister Rose Kuhn drives to a Texas immigration court weekly to sit next to unaccompanied children as young as 4 who are facing deportation hearings alone without relatives or an attorney so that they won’t have to face the judge by themselves.

Heartbreaking and horrific.

It’s a fine statement. But it doesn’t mention Manchester, and lacks “vibe”. A bit too “Starmerish” for Burnhams liking.
A suggested statement for Andy Burnham.
