French philosopher Chantal Delsol argues that Europe should protect freedom by exercising power only where it is needed. Nations govern most domestic affairs whilst Europe acts where scale is essential: money, defence, external borders, strategic foreign policy. Shared strength, not centralisation.

In an era when star forwards conserve themselves for vanity stats, Bellingham is an example for kids. At 23, he is already England’s youngest to 50 caps and record World Cup scorer. Blessed with prodigious gifts, his greatest may be sheer drive. Runs himself into the ground, influences every phase.

Middle East crude exports have recovered to 98% of pre-war levels as new Saudi and UAE bypass routes reduce reliance on Hormuz. Brent remains at $98–100 because refined inventories lag, but should recover if exports hold. That points to lower oil prices ahead and suggests Iran’s leverage has peaked.

A decade after entering industrial IoT, PTC is selling Kepware and ThingWorx to TPG and refocusing on its CAD business. The model proved too complex and costly to scale across heterogeneous estates, exposing the limits of point-to-point integration and the case for a reusable platform such as Altior

Fin Smith, Saints' deceptively complete fly-half. Not the explosive runner of Feinberg-Mngomezulu or Jalibert, nor Russell’s tactical kicker, but sees space early, plays square, distributes late, controls shape, defends exceptionally well. Could be one of England’s surprises at the next World Cup.

In his first major speech as PM, Burnham argued for institutional rebuilding after 4 decades of liberalisation. A Macmillan-style mixed economy in which the state takes greater responsibility for monopoly-like essentials and social provision. Will require major public-services reform and discipline.

Bain & Co estimates AI will need $6tn of annual revenue by 2031 to justify the infrastructure now being built, versus only $1.8tn from foreseeable applications. The $4.2tn gap leaves OpenAI and Anthropic needing huge new demand, while Oracle is particularly exposed to the capacity built around them.

China’s Cyberspace Administration is probing DeepSeek and Kimi after Anthropic alleged they routed large volumes of queries through Claude. This suggests Chinese models were not only improved using US model, but may still rely on US systems for advanced tasks, including military-related.

The great underappreciated part of the British story is the middle class, which produced Charles Darwin, John Stuart Mill, generations of army officers, diplomats, and civil servants. The structures that enabled this rested on financial independence, the ability to pass on inheritance.

Macron has overseen a 24pt rise in debt to GDP (122%). More than Hollande (+8), less than Sarkozy (+26). After the Gilets Jaunes and Covid, his 2024 dissolution ended fiscal discipline. France has used up its fiscal space as its population ages, defence needs grow & appetite for reform remains low.

Passive investing is perversely making markets less efficient. Active managers have fallen from 85% of trading in 1995 to 7% today. Index funds buy by market weight, so rising shares attract more capital, reinforcing momentum and concentration. Today, $1 of inflow creates up to $22 of market value.

The Boks may not be as complete as the 11-15 All Blacks, but in their scrum they possess the game’s greatest ever weapon. Built on technique & cohesion as much as power. Winning the engage, squeezing the tighthead, attacking the hooker–loosehead seam, chasing their feet & driving as one 8-man unit.

WWII was won by manpower, logistics & industrial might, but also shaped by consequential raids. In 1943, 10 Norwegian commandos, backed by Britain’s SOE, bypassed tight German security at Vemork via a ravine thought impassable & destroyed heavy-water production, delaying Germany’s nuclear programme.

Canada will escalate its trade war with the US tomorrow after talks collapsed over tariffs, supply management, and demands limiting Ottawa’s freedom to strike its own trade deals. A Trumpian version of the Monroe Doctrine. Carney can afford the political fight more than the economic one. For now.

AlUla, in north-west Saudi Arabia, was a major oasis on ancient trade routes linking Arabia with the Mediterranean. At Hegra, more than 100 monumental tombs were carved into sandstone by the city’s wealthiest families around 2,000 years ago. Today, a major heritage and luxury tourism destination.

Magnus Carlsen, the grandmaster without weaknesses, who has won every title in the game. Brilliant in openings, defence and endgames, he rarely blunders and suffocates opponents under constant pressure. His intuition is built on a photographic memory that recognises game patterns from past decades.

Our institutions were not designed to handle a technology that spreads as fast as AI. I believe we should tax AI tokens and robots. If you're an employer and you hire someone, you pay payroll taxes on their earnings. But if you buy a robot, you can write it off as a business expense.
Bill Gates.

Business leaders draw on three forms of capital: intellectual, social and psychological. Few embody this better than Jensen Huang. Built deep expertise and vision over decades, painstakingly developed his network, and made adaptability, resilience and self-awareness the pillars of Nvidia's culture.

Salesforce shares jumped 20% on its latest results after falling near 50% from their peak. The SaaS apocalypse looks premature. AI still needs trusted systems of record for context and action. Agents will increasingly operate Salesforce, not replace it: at this layer, customers buy trust, not speed.

Hostility to Europe is so often bound up with intense attraction to its beauty and heritage. Increasingly, the continent has the worst of all worlds: none of the influence of a superpower, but all of the incoming scrutiny. A less beautiful place would be left to decline in peace.

Britain will be the first foreign country to access Ukraine’s unique battlefield data, drawn from millions of drone, camera & sensors. To be used to train AI to identify tanks, drones & artillery. In return, Britain will bring universities, AI research, defence firms & classified missile technology.

One of France’s prettiest historic towns, Brantôme grew around an 8th-century Benedictine abbey. Relics of Saint Sicaire, believed one of Herod’s Holy Innocents, drew pilgrims and commerce. Successive abbots used that wealth to rebuild it in Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance forms along the Dronne.

Few could argue that Beethoven was the greatest melodist, harmonist or orchestrator. His genius lay instead in making every next note feel inevitable, even more so than Mozart. Out of struggle, obsession, and near-mad intensity. He managed to forge music combining both logic and emotional force.

In a matter of months, OpenAI has bled its COO, product chief, VP, and heads of marketing, ethics, safety and futurism. Its CRO, Denise Dresser, just walked after eight months, leaving a huge IPO payout on the table. Whatever she saw from inside the revenue operation wasn't worth staying for.

From Sept 2026, the CRA adds new vulnerability-reporting duties, while NIS2 raises operator accountability. The challenge is linking product-level security data to the live deployed estate. Altior creates governed digital twins showing each asset’s identity, location, state, access, and data flows.
