Intro post? Okay.

I'm Rob! I've been on a Transformers podcast for 15 years and have been YouTubing for 11 or 12 I think. I mostly cover Gundam games these days, especially #GBO2, and love robot toys and models as well as action figures in general. I'm cranky when people get hurt for fun & profit.

Trans people are about twice the percentage of the US population as Jews were in Germany in 1933.

(1.5% compared to 0.75%)
It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.

Maybe we should start respecting the Dems' intelligence enough to assume that anything done consistently for 30+ years, and that continually weakens positions they "support" on a wholly theoretical and immaterial level, is done with purpose.
Any time the nominal left accepts reactionary framing, that political sector gets pushed farther and farther right. This has been happening with the US Democratic party since Clinton decided to be New Reagan and you see where we are now.

It will not be better for queer/trans issues.
There's also a very real, recent example in the u.s. with Dems deploying more anti-immigrant rhetoric (supposedly to win key elections), then trying to pass draconian anti-immigrant laws, then a swath providing key support to Trump's ICE horrors.

Like the evidence for how this goes is pretty clear

Once the party arguing for harm reduction has been in a position to reduce harm and not done it, the argument for harm reduction is dead.

If a harm reduction candidate can be convinced by money, personal gain, polling, or peer pressure to become pro-harm, the distinction is not important.

From now on I think if we're even thinking about donating to a Dem candidate we need to give that money and time to a local mutual aid network instead. We've let them waste so much of our time and energy, and we need to be building the things we'll need to survive without them instead.

Trans people have always existed, will always exist, deserve to exist, and do not have to justify their existence to you.

None of those statements are true of any political party.

I assume anyone who points out how small the trans population is doesn’t know any trans people & I guess that’s what it takes to care? Because if you know even ONE trans person, like a person in your life, how can you think about that person and conclude it’s okay if they get thrown under the bus?

The time to push candidates toward more progressive policies is NOT after they get in office. It’s before. We have to look out for everybody. That may include a type of person that is not in your life!

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be “It’s simple math, vote blue no matter who, grow up” and ALSO believe you are fighting fascism by making calculations as to who’s expendable. The world we’re in now demands more from us. More from everyone.

Really is heartening to see more people pushing back against the Democrats after the party has been in open revolt against us, its constituents, for decades.

Buddy, you ran. Don't tell those of us who stayed in the line of fire we couldn't criticise ideas that history has now proved unworkable.

It's the simplest thing, these little videos, to show that government is working, and more to the point, working for you. It kicks the teeth out of that old Reaganism about how the scariest statement is "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Politicians NEED TO HEAR when there's disagreement. How else will they course correct? Why do you think they would be better candidates if they were surrounded by a heavenly chorus saying "yes, yes!"

Yes, we want good candidates to win, and that's why we want to push candidates to be better.

The insistence that they stay mediocre and uncriticized is probably worse for Democratic chances.
