In the Season 1 finale of the podcast, Glenise Mullins and Robin Fusco break down what actually helps when you’re preparing to pitch: how to practice without sounding rehearsed, manage nerves, make eye contact, warm up the room, use visuals and cue cards, and handle the inevitable Q&A.

Pitching is a whole process—and in the first part of this series, Robin and Glenise break down why it matters, what an OWA actually is, why you need a clear point of view before you ever step into the room, and how to structure your pitch.

Keep the Drama on Screen, Not Behind the Scenes

Understanding clearances is like playing legal dodgeball—avoiding rights issues that can shut your project down or cost a fortune. Whether it’s a character name or artwork in the background, every detail needs approval.

Ever wonder why some writers’ room pitches land and others flop? Here’s a hint: Character-driven ideas connect emotionally—and that’s what makes them stick. ✨

Ever wonder what’s really happening behind the scenes in a writers’ room? It’s not just a hierarchy — it’s a dynamic puzzle where every role changes the game.

Know how to read the room, stay flexible, and don’t forget the golden rule: don’t be a jerk.

Giving notes is an art form — as is getting notes. Here are some things we keep in mind when we give notes.

Want more? We go into the whole noting process in a lot more depth in Episode 3 of the Flawed Protagonists podcast — available wherever you get your podcasts.

We launched our podcast earlier this week, and somehow, Flawed Protagonists is already the #1 podcast on the @goodpods.bsky.social Top Indie Film & TV Weekly Chart.

To everyone who’s listened, followed, subscribed, shared, or recommended the show: thank you.

Thrilled to share that the screenwriting podcast — two writers at different career stages sharing honest, behind-the-scenes insights as they navigate an ever-shifting industry — that @glenise.bsky.social and I have put together has just dropped its first episode. We’d love you to give it a listen!

For my birthday this year, I asked friends and family for their favorite teas. And now, as I get ready to write each day, I’m sharing one. Come have a tea with me and chat about writing.

As we watch our industry become a monopoly, supported by a kleptocracy, people are rightfully wondering what we can do to stop it.

One solution is something I’ve been working on for the past 8 years.

At first it felt hyperbolic to say we’re going to save Hollywood. But now I’m starting to believe.
No matter what happens, the sale of WBD will be a blow to traditional media and the Hollywood machine as we know it.

Fortunately, we’re ready to decentralize and take our skills indie.

Who’s with us?

@janeespenson.bsky.social Thanks for the one long email chain comment on the Humanitas session today. It was a good reminder for me, and I immediately went and fixed an email that I was about to send. :-)

Cannot wait to watch this! 👏👏👏
One of the episodes of Memory of a Killer comes on tonight (Monday) on Fox, (Tuesday) on Hulu. Episode 5 is very close to my heart. Taught me so much as a writer and a producer. Plus, the directing, acting, and every single person involved in this production was top notch. youtu.be/8FoATwjzNEU?...

What is Gainrep? Can anyone tell me? Because I keep getting email requests to endorse people I’ve never even met.

How do we feel about modern adaptations? I just finished Katie Bernet’s BETH IS DEAD. She’s a brilliant writer, and I was sucked into the story. It also made me incredibly nostalgic for the original.

Who has read the collaborative novel THE GRIMOIRE OF GRAVE FATES? I need to know more. How did it come together? Did the editors have an outline & assign roles? Was there a writers’ room? Did the authors each come up with a character and it was worked out from there? So. Many. Questions.

Just finished Charlie Donlea’s book DON’T BELIEVE IT, and I’m fascinated by the discourse surrounding its ending. To me, it’s a great sequel setup, but no direct sequel exists. Anyone know if the cases are referenced in either of the books featuring Gus or Cuddy?

Started the year off yesterday with a 5-hour virtual writing sprint (marathon?) with friends. It was honestly one of my favorite starts to a year ever. Here’s to 2026 being the year when dreams come true.

Watching @judyblume.bsky.social's #Masterclass where she talks about wanting to make edits post-publication when recording an audiobook version (and not being allowed to) and oh my gosh so relatable. 🤣 It's never finished!
