Of millions of potential birds, 22 at most killed. Probably far fewer. A stat to keep in your back pocket when pro-fossil fuel voices claim that bad wind turbines are terrible for biological systems.

Want to conserve #birds, #mammals and other vertebrates? Then don’t forget their #insects. Our new Nature Reviews Biodiversity paper explores the many ways vertebrates depend on insects — for food, shelter, protection and much more. I’ve written about it here: jeffollerton.co.uk/2026/09/30/w...
Want to conserve birds and mammals? Then conserve their insects – our new paper in Nature Reviews Biodiversity sets out the details
It’s sometimes easy to forget quite how much of the living world depends upon insects. That might seem an odd thing for someone who has spent much of his career studying insects and their relations…

Dang where to even begin on this story. So many threads to pull on.

But targeting water infrastructure anywhere in our current era should be understood as a war crime.

As a Kansan myself, this is pretty remarkable. This wasn’t filmed in Overland Park or Lawrence, but in the middle of the state (Hutchinson). And Kansans are typically polite to a fault, so them booing their incumbent Senator is kinda wild to see.

I wish media outlets would, just occasionally, point out the pseudoscience that polygraphs are based on.

Incredible find! That is an amazing and very human passage from the past.
Today I learned there's a website that can translate hieroglyphics from an image, and I'm amazed.

Words spoken by Osiris... He says: "O you who come into being, may I drink of the water of the river. May I be among those who follow Osiris... I may drink of the cool water of the lake...

And trust in the institution will be lower as well.
We're heading into a decade of unprecedented climate disasters and one of the many unfortunate outcomes of this current civic unraveling is that no one is going to sign up to serve in the National Guard after this administration.
