Also, we shouldn't allow Swinford or other Times journalists to escape criticism here.

They should be standing up for the right of all journalists to access senior politicians in the Tory party. But rather than challenge Badenoch's free press lie, they just nod along.
The utter shamelessness of Kemi Badenoch boasting at Conservative party conference about 'defending press freedom' and berating Reform for banning critical journalists from their conference, just days after banning Byline Times journalists from her own

I first became aware of this 'Churchill was a baddie and anyway UK shouldn't have fought Hitler' nonsense in 2013 from a libertarian Christian.
There's a more serious version of the argument, but unlike Carlson's it doesn't ignore the Holocaust.

Disliked Jeremy Clarkson the first time I saw him on telly & have come to properly loathe him. Supposedly people like him coz he's an ar5e & doesn't take himself seriously. Whatever, he's poisonous, & should FRO along with Dyson & all their ilk. And why @theguardian.com pay him for copy, f-knows ?

I think this, from an official British perspective, is the best summary to date:
Stewart Lee: Five Go Mad in Fairford is the worst Enid Blyton yet
The men arrived on small boats. No they didn’t. They’re Middle Eastern. Oh, they’re British. They’re dangerous. No, they’ve been bailed! What 10-year-old would take this seriously?

Tune in if you're awake.

Dear News Media,

This isn't pedantry, it's really important. Semantics changes contexts, and context is everything,

It's not a 'War in Ukraine', it's an invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Please do better.

Here’s something I noticed and investigated while working on my graph of the two wars’ impacts on oil & fuel prices: US diesel (weekly avg) tracks overwhelmingly at ~5% of Brent crude (daily high) over the past 7.75 years. Another indication that banning diesel exports won’t help bring prices down…

This is the most ghastly story- a “will they, won’t they” debate about whether Tennessee will execute a woman today - leaving her in tortured limbo. The death penalty is abhorrent and should not be allowed in a civilized society.
I’m told the state has until midnight to carry out the execution. Still unclear what happens next, but prison officials are bringing those of us witnessing the execution inside now to be ready.

LibDems lost the plot years ago, supporting Conservatives, opposing soft Brexit etc. They're perpetual oppositionists, appealing to 'seniors' & the Daily Mail narrative. Just now, they're criticising triple-lock pension reform, not supporting the electoral reform that might give them some relevance.

Because it's incapable of helping itself, or even recognising that it is compromised, the BBC needs a good old purge from the outside if it's ever again to receive the respect it once deserved. Otherwise, it deserves defunding and disbanding.

Trump is lying about what climatolgists said, saying they were wrong, & that they are the same people people warning about AI dangers.

It should be easy for LLMs to systematically fact check & prepare context for news reports.

In a post-truth era, LLMs could help protect truth, not undermine it.
