I got to see Yoshitaka Amano’s work in person and wow!!! I long to make more ambitious pieces now! It was a breathtaking and inspiring exhibit!!! Can I quit my day job and make large paintings instead?

This piece is one I started a few years ago. I come back to it every now and then. Its title is “A Hundred Years and I’d Still be too Young”, for when my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and FTD and I was 26. Things have advanced a lot in his illness. I’m thinking of picking this up once more.

Sat outside to eat my lunch. A bunch of wasps were out. One of them dived into my lunch and was drowning. I tried to help it. The other wasps got mad and started attacking so I just watched it die in my food… I threw my lunch out.

unwillingness to confront and be in discomfort is what allows white supremacy & fascism to continue. these systems count on it, and not enough white folks deal with the discomfort they are facing cause the systems let them run away from it.
Discomfort is an essential part of growth and wouldn’t it be so embarrassing to be the exact same person thirty years from now, in a totally different world, because you were so averse to discomfort?
