Beyond Fest fun, a crappy 80s relic, and a sci-fi classic.

With the IT miniseries - I always loved what they did with Mike; the movies did that character dirty. And yes, all the kids stuff still works (Jonathan Brandis’ “help me” scene kills me).

And for Star Trek’s anniversary, I had to go with TMP: Director’s Cut. To me, it’s the one TOS film that truly captures the spirit of the series

Deep Blue Sea’s campiness works because the film plays things oh-so straight. MOTU, on the other hand, mugs for the camera with a wink-wink-nudge-nudge any chance it gets. It’s painfully annoying. Under this roof, our “hat is like a shark’s fin.”

The Monkee’s Head is an odd duck, where one minute it’s hitting the cartoonish highs of their show…and the next, it’s boiling over with anti-Vietnam anger. Messy surrealism, but when it succeeds there’s nothing like it.

Toy Story 5 is so visually stunning, it consistently took my breath away. Thankfully, all of that razzle-dazzle didn’t overshadow a lovely Jessie (and Bullseye)-centric story. Heartwarming stuff.

A day late, but I wanted to chew on Disclosure Day a little bit before throwing some stars its way.

And as much as I enjoy Vol 1&2, this KB Bloody Affair cut is a mess - rhythmically - imo. What once worked well, quickly becomes an overblown slog. Hard pass.

Somehow - miraculously - The Furious sustains an infectious energy for its entire runtime, with jaw-dropping action choreography that’ll BLOW YOUR MIND. Everyone went berserk within the first 5 minutes and never let up. This is why we all go to the movies.

Lorynbrantz on instagram shares a post about their cupcake character being stolen for these new amazon ai shows. Reads as follows I am horrified and disgusted by BuzzFeed taking my character, The Good Advice Cupcake, and giving it to an Al platform. My time at BuzzFeed was marked by continually being taken advantage of and lied to. They repeatedly assured me in good faith that they would never do anything with Cuppy without my input, yet offered me no legal options, insisting that I would never need them. The news that this character, who is based on my own personality and whom I created as a microphone to spread love and positivity, has been taken and turned into a soulless Al puppet feels like having my intestines pulled out of my body. Somebody leaked the news to me early on that there were talks happening, and I pleaded with the CEO Jonah Peretti directly not to do it. Instead, he tried to talk me into signing an NDA. Obviously, I did not. This is an assault on artists everywhere. I encourage you to boycott BuzzFeed and any Al-produced or adjacent animation.

Boots Riley is a madman, whose call for action in I Love Boosters embraces joy, vibrancy, imagination, and a dash of insanity. The cast is wonderful, the editing and cinematography astonish, and the gags are fresh and fierce.

As much as I love Peter Weir’s films, I just can’t gel with Green Card (no matter how many times I’ve tried).
