Hillingdon wants your free half hour to be Pay by Phone only, a number plate on every ticket, and fewer ticket machines. Here's what's proposed, and how to have your say.
Hillingdon First free parking to go phone-only, fewer ticket machines, and Sunday parking charges

Those proposals have now been published. A report dated 22 September 2026 to the Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, Cllr Wayne Bridges, asks him to approve a public consultation on five…

There was a fire at the Lido last month, and a Council officer was hurt. Here's what we've been told, and what we haven't.

Full marks for openness the week the fire happened. Not so much a week later.
Fish, fire, and a fading trail of answers: what we know about the Lido this summer
Ruislip Lido has had a difficult few weeks. First an oxygen crash killed a significant number of fish. Then, while the Council and the Environment Agency worked to put that right, one of the emergency pumps caught fire, and a Council officer was taken to hospital. Since then, the information coming from Hillingdon Council has gone from detailed to almost nothing, right at the point the questions became harder to answer.

Early proposals for up to 325 homes at Joel Street Farm are on Hillingdon's portal. This is a procedural screening step, not a planning application yet. Read our explainer on what is proposed and when residents get a say
Screening request lodged for 325 new homes on Green Belt land at Joel Street Farm, Northwood Hills
A new potential proposal has appeared on the council website for land at Joel Street Farm, Northwood Hills - around 10.8 hectares of horse-grazing fields off Joel Street, close to Northwood Hills Underground station. This site sits within Northwood Hills, not Ruislip, so it's the Northwood Hills Residents' Association, and likely the neighbouring Northwood Residents Association and  Eastcote Residents' Association…

An 8-week, fully funded natural flood mitigation project is officially underway in Park Wood SSSI to help protect local Ruislip homes from future flooding.
New 8-Week natural flood mitigation project begins in Park Wood SSI to protect Ruislip homes
Residents of Broadwood Avenue and Park Avenue experienced flooding on the 23rd of June 2016, when a third cloudburst in a couple of days fell on Ruislip. It is estimated that some 45mm of rain fell in around 45 minutes onto already saturated ground, causing the Pinn to overflow its banks. There was widespread flooding along the Ruislip Pinn, to include Brook Drive and Evelyn Avenue.

Heritage craft workers at Ruislip's Manor Farm are facing an urgent crisis: a 100% rent hike from Hillingdon Council means they may no longer be able to afford to stay. Treating these historic workshops like commercial high-street units threatens to wipe out the cultural heart of the site.

The Council has finally published an Operational Safety Plan for Ruislip Lido. The good news? Better traffic plans. The bad news? For a site with nearly a million visitors, the actual water safety plan is still marked as "to be devised."
Nearly a million visitors and no water safety plan! Council finally publishes (unfinished!) Operational Plan for Ruislip Lido
More than sixteen months after residents were promised rapid work on the “obvious risks” at Ruislip Lido, Hillingdon Council has finally published its new Operational Safety Plan. It contains some welcome improvements to emergency access, traffic management and incident reporting – but the document says that the specialist water safety plan is still to be produced, while the hours of evening enforcement remain unclear and the latest specific water-body risk assessment still dates from 2021.

Welcome to the brand new 'Audiobook Town Crier' from the Ruislip Residents' Association! How the Idea Was Born The idea started with a simple chat down at the allotments. Hillingdon Council’s Deputy Leader has been exposed for hiding behind a fake "lemon" Facebook profile to secretly mock residents and anonymously defend his own policies.

Hillingdon Council’s Deputy Leader Richard Mills has been insulting us and calling residents cowards for months, while disguised as a lemon wearing sunglasses
On 18 August, the Local Democracy Reporting Service revealed that Hillingdon Council's Deputy Leader, Cllr Richard Mills, had spent months posting on Facebook under the name "DelightfulYuzu2877" - commenting on Council business and the conduct of residents as though he were an ordinary member of the public, while concealing that he was one of the people making the decisions being discussed.

St Martin’s Approach Car Park: Why the Planning Application has to be on hold for archaeology
The planning application for new housing at St Martin's Approach car park cannot be decided until an archaeological dig has taken place on site - and that dig hasn't started yet. The Greater London Archaeology Advisory Service (GLAAS), which advises the council on heritage matters, has made this a required step before any decision can be made, and because the trenches will sit within the working car park, residents should expect some parking spaces to be temporarily out of use once digging begins.

As the summer heat continues and the Affinity Water hosepipe ban takes effect across Ruislip, residents are making daily sacrifices to protect our local water supply. From letting our lawns turn brown to watering our gardens and allotments by hand, our community is stepping up. We are very pleased to report that Hillingdon Council is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with residents in this effort, taking proactive and responsible action at Ruislip Lido.

Hillingdon Council warns that the Mayor's Draft London Plan will "force" 24,030 new homes onto the borough over 10 years, with 61% on Green Belt land - the highest share of any London borough.  Both figures are accurate.  But the council's own explanation of how this system works doesn't match the alarm it's raising. Who actually decides where the homes go?

Hillingdon Council has now confirmed that this is exactly the direction it is heading.
