So Francis is James, James is Richard and Thomas is Jeremy. I think. #GrandTour

A little trip to the coast...

So briefly, very briefly, my lawn was thinking "yes, rain!" But 5 minutes later, all evidence of it has gone. So cruel. Sorry grass...

It is interesting to see how stable the indoor temperature is. The house is a big heat capacitor!
August 13, 2026 at 12:46 PM
So, hottest day of the year so far - 36.5°C and rising. I wonder where we'll end up?

What do you do with a pack of eclipse glasses when the next significant eclipse here is in 2090?

10:30 and already 30°C. Today is going to be a hot one...

Testing out my solar photography setup for later today. I had to make a new solar filter as the last time I did this I had a different camera with a different sized lens.

Things are definitely looking a bit brown!
August 10, 2026 at 2:34 PM
Thinking of getting the lawn mower out. Not to cut the grass because there isn't any, but the weeds could do with a trim!
August 5, 2026 at 11:23 AM
I'm at Rhandirmwyn Camping and Caravanning Club Site with not many other people! To be fair, these are the grass pitches - the hard standing pitches are a bit busier.

Thankfully the campsite WiFi is holding up pretty well so I can watch Arthur Fery from the comfort of the middle of a field in Wales...

So, it is very nearly 30°C upstairs right now. There is just no point in going up to try and sleep, is there? I'm going to go and sit out in the garden where it is "only" 26. At midnight.

One of the projects on my "retirement list" was to go through my collection of slides, negatives and prints from decades ago and digitise it all. A perfect activity for those winter days that are too cold/wet to go out. I hadn't anticipated making a start in June because it is too hot to go outside!
June 25, 2026 at 4:51 PM
One of the things I intended to do with all the "free time" I got from retirement was working my way through a list of books I never got around to before. It had taken me a while to get started but first up is "Blue Machine" by @helenczerski.bsky.social .

Well, that's a bit of a difference...
May 27, 2026 at 9:19 AM
It is currently a whole 4°C cooler than this time yesterday. Hopefully that means a much more pleasant day?
May 27, 2026 at 7:00 AM
Had to reinforce the nest box because it was being attacked by a woodpecker. Normally I'd be quite pleased to see a woodpecker in the garden, but...

Thankfully the bluetits don't seem to mind. The adult (male?) is constantly in and out with food, presumably for the female inside.

Hey @coventrycc.bsky.social , this on the Eastern edge of Park Wood needs some attention.
