on some level, you have to accept that yes, people are reacting emotionally without doing detailed research but really you can’t blame them or stop them. this was some bullshit not a single one of us had to think about three years ago and now it’s making shit worse in like most daily interactions

people are always saying anti-AI arguments don’t understand the full nuances of the technology. which is correct. but only because it stole everyone’s work, exists solely to get you fired, has made the entire internet unusable and has been forced on everyone without consent

also. the thing people hate is not ‘the technology’ it is the tech industry. they hate move fast and break things. they hate having everything they say tracked and processed while companies do whatever they want. they hate every single ideological value that animates silicon valley

Can’t get over this. “Canada is not for sale.”***

*** to one specific guy
YVR is a beautiful, world-class airport and this motherfucker is going to ruin it.
#Breaking: The federal government will allow private ownership of four major airports — including Toronto’s Pearson, Canada’s busiest — in a move that breaks with a decades-long arrangement that saw them run by non-profits on government-owned land.

Harper *wishes* he could have said the shit Poilievre says and *wishes* he could do the things Carney does.

Mark Carney is the strongest conservative leader we've seen in decades (derogatory.)

Not that women are not capable of or frequently complicit in this kind of terrible “leadership” but it’s also hard not to draw a connection between this kind of dudebro boss’ affinity for crunch and women being historically overrepresented in Production roles.
there's a type of Guy who believes crunch is inevitable and it's always the same guy:
* leader who started on small, crunch-heavy teams
* no experience working anywhere that takes production seriously
* doesn't know how to leave room in a schedule, convinced last minute panicking is the only way

It's really easy to talk about how "necessary" crunch is when your entire development model relies on burning people out and chucking them into the trash. It's especially easy to do it when you're ~35 and the guy taking home the paycheck for the 8th time you sell your company to a new investor.

it's always "fun" to look into the details on these sorts of situations:
* This guy cofounded this company out of school and has never had a boss in his entire life.
* Notes that he's laid off 20% of the studio every year for the past 6 years
* "We want to lean more and more into the gig economy"
