If you know something about the Sat night incident involving the NYPD commissioner's unmarked car and a cyclist, please reach out! Streetsblog was one of the first to cover this — we still want to hear from New Yorkers about what they saw.

Truly an insane story, now in video format!
A NY State Trooper was arrested in NJ after a night getting drunk at a strip club... while he was supposed to be on duty patrolling MTA bridges and tunnels.

The cop was part of a rogue unit based in NYC that includes some of the state's highest-paid cops, reports @sammysussman.bsky.social:

NEW: An unmarked NYPD car wracked up $38K in tickets, including 400+ school zone speeding tix.

Though the dept can get tix dismissed, that's only if they can show "urgent" or "necessary" police action.

Here, only $4K of the tix were dismissed.

This unmarked grey Subaru that belongs to the NYPD's controversial Community Response Team has almost $38,000 in unpaid speed and red-light camera tickets — and none of the reckless driving done by cops in that vehicle was claimed to be a part of any police "emergency."

NEW — a story I've been working on for 3 years:

In a job interview in 2020, officer Joseph DeAngelis admitted to misconduct in 5 previous depts ranging from falsified reports and using the n-word to off-duty drunk driving, shoplifting and animal abuse.

A @nyc.streetsblog.org analysis shows that patrol cops are writing nearly 1/3 less parking tickets (and 1/2 less speeding tickets) in lower Manhattan this year though tickets by traffic agents are up and 311 calls about parking are way up.

Last month, we obtained hours of body-cam from Oswego County. It showed sheriff's deputies pulling over drivers — and if the drivers didn't speak English, the deputies called Border Patrol. Some drivers were held for 30+ min while BP responded.
