This is not a subtle movie. It's a sledgehammer and prior to 2020, I might have marked it down for that but we are just about seven years into COVID and you know what? I kinda liked it not being subtle. I have a feeling Danish audiences of 1918 felt the same.

Sometimes around the late Ming, a conviction arises that the Horse King is *Muslim* - and therefore you sacrifice lamb, not pork, to him.
