Today we're out visting #Neolithic or #BronzeAge sites across Østfold!

Here from the ongoing archaeological excavation at Hunn and rock art site Medgårdskogen, with painted figures rather unique to this region. Can you see them without the decorrelation?

New special issue out – a festschrift for Espen Uleberg 💻💾

For decades, he's been the hub of Norwegian #DigitalArchaeology – a pioneer for #FAIR data long before the term existed. This volume is a fitting tribute to that legacy.

Gratulerer, Espen! 👏

Had to do an emergency U-turn with my bike in the middle of traffic just now!

Why? Oil stains on the asphalt had the perfect ground plan of a two-aisled house. Even a potential entrance! #LateNeolithic #BronzeAge

🐟🌱🔥 Before farming, Mesolithic people introduced fish to Norway's mountains ~5000 BC - actively shaping ecosystems. This wasn't just hunting; it was deliberate environmental management. Important paper by colleagues @historiskmuseum.bsky.social published in @antiquity.ac.uk

Got interviewed by @forskning.bsky.social about my favourite find from an excavation: this 6000-year-old piece of resin from Ime. A #StoneAge site with 🏹 and 🌰, situated in a sheltered spot. Possibly chewed and shaped in the mouth, it bore leaf imprints and smelled of pine during analysis. Link ⬇️

This is a powerful reminder that preconceived notions often shape "science" more than evidence does. For 200 years, we assumed a rich burial with tools belonged to a man - but DNA just proved it was a female metalworker.

We need to challenge these biases!

In connection with #pride, @uio.no made a small video based on my article on the value of ‘queer gaze’ (skeive blikk) in archaeology. Queer archaeology must be more than just making same-sex relations visible, we also need to dwell on explicit expressions without always explaining them away. 🧵 1/
