Americans are getting swept up in Trump’s immigration dragnet. Over 500 U.S. citizens that we know of. Even more that we don’t.

ICE’s lawlessness spares no one.

Excellent documentary on landslide risk across America—it’s also about public data acess and the lobbies who would prefer the public not know until it’s too late.

Mia Travers-Hayward of the Canadian Teachers' Federation argues governments must regulate AI in K-12 education proactively — not wait for court cases to compel accountability, as happened with social media platforms.
Let’s Not Wait for Court Cases to Address Cognitive Harms in Education
Without government action, the child safety harms from social media platforms will repeat for AI in education, writes Mia Travers-Hayward.

Pictures of local government in 2026:

Where your local police department tells you to solve the crime in which you’re a victim.

And all government staff are inaccessible behind voicemail and email to nowhere.

It’s a kafkaesque yet DIY style of government here in Seattle.

Civic Tech folks… is there a national map in the USA that shows active natural disaster areas & rebuilding phases & ratings for the state of emergency and rebuilding?

How many square miles of the USA has an active flood, fire, tornado, hurricane, etc. impact?

Has anyone built national monitoring?

Thomson Reuters, which owns news agency Reuters, has signed a $125M deal giving ICE access to its databases of personal data.

USA Today has partnered with Palantir to gain "actionable intelligence" on its audiences.

The media should be opponents of Trump's police state — not collaborators.

Oh, if only this could’ve been foreseen.

Gift link (I think?) to this excellent breakdown of how the U.S. now has a weakened stockpile of weapons, and how Iranian tech is drawing down American weapons.

The U.S. Missile Stockpile Is Dangerously Low
The United States’ war with Iran has caused a critical weaponry shortage. That leaves the U.S. military vulnerable and complicates Washington’s efforts to end the war.

I've recently had cause to meet with some state treasurers, and I've learned something amazing: there is not a single state treasury that can easily tell you how much money they have. The software they use ("Treasury Management Systems") simply doesn't support that. They do *not* like this.

I’m at an economic development conference right now & the 1st session was the most depressing.

It was all about attracting chains (mostly private equity acquired or prone) and land development for car-centric, unwalkable communities with cookie cutter national brands.

My morning read: “The Feed is Fake,” by Lane Brown in @vulture.

How bots, AI, & a new generation of marketing firms are warping our sense of reality.

I don’t employ a stealth marketing company, so you’ll probably never see this.🤦‍♀️
