The History of Concrete is (unsurprisingly) perfect. Also, it makes so much sense that John Wilson cites William H. Whyte as one of his influences

One of the more understated (and interesting) examples of Dead-inspired luxury fashion: Gabriela Hearst’s 2024 collection, which references Roy Henry Vickers’ artwork from the Pacific Northwest ‘73-‘74 box set

“For those of you up front who can see, Mickey’s got his headset on and he’s talking to the people that are hovering up there. You know, the people on the ship. The people in the sky. Mickey has extended conversations with them.”

A crucial question from my father: how many wives, girlfriends, and/or lovers does FOTD’s narrator have?

#FridayFrocks #Pleating: A #Teagown c.1894–97 from Liberty of London. The back features a long panel, like the sack back gowns of the 18th century. However, the inverted pleats are stitched in the opposite way. Gowns from the 1700s feature a box pleat at the centre. #Libertys #Fashion #SackBack

Different versions of Dior’s 1949 ‘Venus’ dress survive in collections around the world. Each image offers an alternative perspective, aspects of construction that I hadn’t really noticed before. This #KSUMuseum really shows the distinction between soft layers & sequined scallops #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

50 years ago today, my dad attended his first Dead show at Colt Park in Hartford. He’s told me the story many times, but I never grow tired of hearing it.

Here’s a comment he left on GD of the Day seven years ago (and which I randomly stumbled across earlier this year) recounting his experience.

Jam band aficionados, please weigh in: what constitutes a bust out?

Is it measured in years? Number of shows? Does it depend on the band?

Late to posting, but one of the highlights of the Met’s Costume Art exhibition is its exploration of the pregnant body. I was especially moved by this Grover Rad opera coat, which features a comic strip by Aline Kominsky-Crumb and Sophie Crumb documenting their abortion stories

Seriously considering buying a super last minute ticket to tonight’s Wilco/YLT show, which feels highly risky given that every man I’ve ever matched with on a dating app is bound to be in attendance

I didn’t love Hacks, but I’ve added it to my list of shows with perfect finale closing songs (spoiler: they used Barbra and Judy’s performance of Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again from the Judy Garland Show)

Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed.
